16:10 ratio?
#1
I can reach 16:9 but when I put 1920x1200 (8:5 or 16:10) into the res, I still end up with black borders on the top and bottom of the screen.

Maybe I'm missing a setting or it's just impossible to reach 16:10. Any one the wiser?

Your monitor isn't 16:10 ratio, it's 16:9. For every 16 pixels across there are 9 pixels vertical, so if you try to fit in 10 pixels on a 9 pixel line you end up with black bars. Just use 1600x900.

Not true. 1920x1200 is 16:10. 1920x1080 is 16:9.

Regardless, PS2 games play natively at 4:3, or 16:9 if supported. Hence you can't make it fit a 16:10 screen fully while keeping the original aspect ratio (16:9 at best).

Also, the D3D internal resolution is.. well.. internal. It's sort of the native canvas resolution onto which the image is drawn, and then stretched to fit the required aspect ratio. If you select a resolution manually, it replaces the internal PS2 resolution (different per game, usually around 512x512 or 640x448, etc, but still stretched to 4:3 or to 16:9). You could set an internal resolution of 100x500 and it would still stretch to the proper aspect ratio on display (4:3 or 16:9), but will look ugly due to the very low res..

What you can do though, if you prefer to have it really full screen on a 16:10 AR (while distorting the original 16:9 image slightly and make everything look slightly too "thin"), is set the GS window aspect ration to "Fit to Window/Screen" (emulation settings -> gs window).

That explains it. I was bothered by it because my HDTV displays it correctly at 16:9. Thank you. I think I'll get used to the black bars. I did the Stretch and while it looks ok, I can imagine it being an issue with other games.

I think the same. I also have identical setup to yours (16:10 monitor 1920x1200, 42" plasma at 16:9), and on the monitor, I prefer black bars than vertically stretched. Some don't mind though.

Yea, other way around here. I couldn't stand the black bars so I rather take the (barely noticeable) stretching Wink
