8800gt or better, what should i buy?
#1
the time came for me to upgrade my pc. i have a laptop 1.5ghz CELERON lol so i can't really run too much.

anyway, my bro has a nice laptop that can run pcsx2 (lucky i somehow round out about the project!) and now i'm kinda addicted to it since my ps2 broke last month.

since i'm building a new pc cuz i'm broke/cant find anything to my liking that isn't over my budget, i decided to keep pcsx2 in mind when building.

i'm getting an e8400 3ghz core 2 duo, 4 gig ram system. the only part i haven't picked out yet is the video card. should i get an 8800gt or go one tier up? would it matter too much for this program? from what i heard its mostly cpu intensive, but also a good video card is needed, and overkill may not really help too much.

No it won't matter, unless you intend to play any other games Wink

something with at least 512 vram is a good idea. 8 series fist supported DX10, so a late 8 or ealry 9 will probably be good and cheap.

you might want to look at the ATI Radeon 4850 one of the best out and is quite cheap imo. It wipes away the Nvidia 8000 and 9000 series.
i5 2500k @4.4ghz, Gigabyte P67-UD4-B3, DDR3 8GB, Gigabyte GTX 480 SOC
Alienware M17xR2, i7 620m, DDR3 4GB, 5870M

..but it's doesn't work well with GSDX and GSDX is currently the only choise if you want to get most of the games work nice and shiny.

Aaaand, Ati always has problems with their drivers. They fix one bug, and produce two new.

Pcsx2 wise, ati cards 47XX and above series have issues regarding speed.

for good performance in pcsx2 9500GT and above will be a good choice.
And a 9600GT will be good for both pcsx2 and PC gaming.

i'd pick up an 8800 ultra, they run for about $200 new ^_^ tigerdirect.com...still plays all new pc games just fine at 1920x1200 Laugh best you can get short of a 280 gtx up. Just looked, they removed it bummer....eh. 9800 gtx is probably next best bet at 140$ almost all the 8800 is Happy
p.s. as far as i can tell, the ps2 isn't impressive in the graphics department, it was created in the geforce 4 era lol...what is key is the 128 bit processing power, so i suspect that cpu is exponentially more important when considering how to get pcsx2 to run most efficiently and basically any gpu above say a 7600 gt with pixel shader 3 should put you in a good place.....? Even the godlike PS3 is only based graphically around the power of a 7800 gtx ^_^

tigerdirect is expensive. I'd check http://www.newegg.com as well and see if they're cheaper.

8800ultra is old technology(good card still). Get a newer more effective card like a 9800GTX or the equivalent hd4series. Also I'd personally recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814150359 Amazing card at a great price and only $50 more then the Ultra you wanted. I'm not much of a ATI, but this card is the ebst bang for the buck and it will give you amazing performance in anything and this is coming from a 9800GT user.
