AMD FX8350 - Dragon Quest 8?
#1
Hi, I currently have an AMD Athlon X4 and DQ8 drops well below 60fps when in towns. Does anyone know if an upgrade to the FX8350 will be enough to get a steady 60fps at 1600X900?

Depends on the scaling you'll use, and whether you're using MTVU Tongue
It should perform good enough though.

The 8350 cpu should be enough, what's your gpu?

An 8350 runs numerous laps around an Athlon x4. Is it an older Athlon or one of the FM2 Athlon's?

Isn't this game mainly GPU limited? I remember my old Phenom II X4 and 5870 would run DQ8 with few issues.

First of all, save yourself some cash and buy an 8320 and put the savings towards a high end Motherboard and decent cooler because you'll need to overclock it to 4.5Ghz (or more).

That will give you enough juice to run most stuff at 60fps that can be run at 60fps in PCSX2.
System:

Fractal Meshify C Dark Tint
Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi
Intel i9 9900K (5Ghz 1.335vlts)
BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler
32Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3200 DDR4
EVGA RTX 2080
512Gb Gigabyte NVMe SSD (Boot Drive)
1Tb Crucial NVMe SSD (Games)
2Tb Seagate HD (Steam)
3Tb Seagate HD (Media)
6Tb Seagate HD (Backup, External)
Corsair 850w RMX Gold PSU

Hey, thanks for the quick replies. I've got a Radeon 6770 graphics card. The only game I can't run at full speed that I want too is DQ8 so I'd rather just get a new CPU instead of replacing the motherboard/cooler etc too, if I was going to do that I might as well just get an intel.

A high end motherboard is not at all necessary, so don't bother. As someone asked before me, if your CPU one of the old Anthlon or the newer ones?

It's a amd athlon ii x4 635 processor 2.90 ghz, which I think is the newer ones but I'm not totally sure Tongue

I used to have that Athlon model. I needed speedhacks to the max for this game. My FX4300 laughs in its face. It's not perfec but definitely an adequate cpu, especially for DQ8.
