ATI_AMD or Nvidia
#1
Ok, so Ignoring the difference in power, I want to talk more on... I guess flexibility or rather which one I should use.

First, keeping it simple, I use 3ds max, photoshop, will probably get into maya, and the unreal engine.

Is there any reason y I should pick either amd or nvidia in this case? From my understanding (and what I heard in class), Nvidia has made some plugins for example that helps out with texturing inside some software. Though I'm not familiar with any of it yet, I also hear people saying game developers are using nvidia over ati as well.

Can someone throw some knowledge into my brain for me (next laptop I'm going to get will either have a 6970M or GTX 470M).
Windows 7 - Asus G73jh-a1 - 17-720qm @ 1.6 GHz (2.8 GHz)(2.4ghz)(1.73ghz) - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 @ 700/1000 (sometimes oc to 800/1100) - 8 gig ram

I'd go with AMD 6970M because it beats the gtx 470 in many tests and it has 2gb of GDDR5 video memory.

i voted HD 6970M it has more than a thousand GFlops than GTX 470 and high-bandwidth rate...and highly possible defeats GTX 470M.

but HD 6970M is a power-hungry system it has a high TDPs than GTX 470M....concering 6970m has also a PowerTune(+20% TDP).
Main Hub:i5-4670(3.4Ghz Factory Clocked),ATi Radeon HD7770(GDDR5+128-bit+1GB),Win 10 SL(x64),ASUS H8M-E,8GB DDR3 RAM

Yes... I think 470 is a lower version compared to 6970...

Its too high... yup comparing with Gtx 580, 570 has to be taken in consideration..

cause you use those specific programs you should ask in a hardware forum that ppl have the knowledge to answer you instead of here.
OS: Win 7 Ultimate x64 sp1, MoBo: Asus P5QD Turbo, CPU: Q6600 @ 3,0Ghz, RAM: Trancend 2x2gb 6-6-6-18 800 MHz, GPU: HD 4850 1gb.
