PC Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.1 gigahertz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460

Build Description: PCSX2 1.0.0 Release Pack - Windows
If other please specify: N/A

BIOS Used: Europe v02.00 (14/06/2004) Console

EE/VU Clamp modes: Normal/Normal

EE/VU Rounding: Chop/Chop

Speedhacks Used: None

Gamefixes Used: SkipMPEG

Amount of testing done (little/medium/much/completed-game):
Little

Comments:
- Game launched via a retail copy.
- Average of 50 FPS.
- Tutorial missions work fine.
- With SkipMPEG used : cutscenes and briefings disappear, but the game lets you access missions (require further testing : first mission launches without critical issues).

Bugs:
- Heavily "garbled" textures in the in-game menus (plane/weapon selection, plane/weapon buying and selling screen) : most of the textures of those menus are hidden by formless black polygons covering a large part of the screen.
- Player planes appears (save for glass parts) colored in a slightly shiny black color, akin to the polygons. Does not affect NPC and enemy planes. Oddly enough, the parts of the plane NOT covered by the polygons in the menus show the regular player paintjob of the plane.
- "Flashy" visual effects (lens flares, sun, explosions) are distorded and sprite-like.
- Moderate sound lag and freezing notes in the in-game menus (plane/weapon selection, plane/weapon buying and selling screen).
- Slight sound lag in the options menus, mostly if multiple keys are pressed at the same time.
- Short (1/2 of a second at best) blacking out during missions, happening at irregular pacing ; not long enough to affect gameplay as far as I can tell.

you will probably find most (if not all) graphical glitches are solved with Software mode (F9). The Ace Combat series rely heavily on MipMapping which is only emulated in software mode (hence the garbled looking sprites, especially distant textures)

Comments:
- Game launched via a retail copy.
- Average of 50 FPS in hardware mode / 20 to 35 in software mode (see below).
- With SkipMPEG used : cutscenes and briefings disappear, but the game lets you access missions (require further testing : first mission launches without critical issues). At this time, game NOT playable without SkipMPEG.

===> Found fix for the 3 bugs above : switching to Software mode (F9 in-game). Many thanks to refraction for pointing it !

- While playing in Software mode, FPS can heavily drop (lowest point to 20). Playing is still possible, but very hard due to the sluggish reactions of the planes. Seems dependant of the level composition or just what is currently rendered on the screen : level with a lot of water drains performance heavily, while looking at the skies does not affect FPS.
===> Partial fix : set the number of rendering threads in software mode to 3 (might change depending of your CPU) keeps the FPS to an average higher rate. Game is more manageable, but truly fine piloting still nigh impossible on some maps.

- Moderate sound lag and freezing notes in the in-game menus (plane/weapon selection, plane/weapon buying and selling screen).
- Slight sound lag in the options menus, mostly if multiple keys are pressed at the same time.
- Short (1/2 of a second at best) blacking out during missions, happening at irregular pacing ; does not appear in software mode.

- Game unplayable when you reach mission 9 : Hardware mode graphical glitches and/or Software mode lag make mission progress impossible.

Gamefixes Used: None

Amount of testing done (little/medium/much/completed-game): Medium

Comments:
  • Game runs smoothly in software mode and in hardware mode with Direct3D renderers. Runs at about 80% with further slowdowns in OpenGL HW due to slow AMD OGL driver.
Bugs:
  • Flickering HUD in hardware modes. Solution: Go to config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings, and set CRC Hack Level to "Minimum" or lower(it's better to set it to "None", see below).
  • The HUD disappears in some night missions on the chase and first person view camera's(fine in cockpit view) in hardware modes. Solution: Set the CRC Hack Level to "None".
  • Lack of mipmapping support in hardware modes causes flickering messed up ground textures at a certain distance. There is no known solution, use software mode and make sure mipmapping is enabled (press the insert key to toggle it).
  • The airplane of the player is completely black in hardware modes. Other (NPC) airplanes are fine, the airplane also looks fine in the hangar. There's no known solution, use software mode.
  • There's a black mist covering objects in the hangar in hardware modes. Solution: Go to config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings, set the Renderer to "OpenGL (Hardware)", and make sure hardware depth/depth emulation is enabled.
  • Clouds are missing in hardware modes. Low hanging mist, rain and other effects are visible. There's no known solution, use software mode instead.
  • Sun sometimes shows through airplane in hardware modes and sunlight doesn't always dim correctly when plane is in front of the sun. There's no known solution, use software mode instead.
Status:
