Amd Phenom Ii X4 965 Black Edition vs Core I5 760 question
#1
Hi:

I've recently been posting in many new desktop thread and I've just realized that I've never looked at AMD processors.

So I want to ask, strictly for PCSX2 (without OCing) which processor would be better and i7 760 or Phenom II X4 965? I'm asking as the second has greater speed than the first......
My Computer: Intel i7 870 @ 2.93 Ghz. XForce Ati Radeon 5870 with 1 Gb RAM. 6 GB DDR3 1333 Mhz RAM.

Very good question. I eagerly await the replies to this.

At stock with Turbo Boost off on the i5-760, they'll have roughly the same performance with the i5-760 edging out by a 1~2 FPS. i5-760 is just faster clock for clock. Turn on Turbo Boost and the difference widens. By the way, there is no Core i7-760.

FFX-2 benchmark:
59.48 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i7 860 - 2.8 GHz Stock (Turbo Boost on, CPU affinity: 2 & 3) - ilovejedd
54.05 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition - 3.6 GHz OC -denimu
51.95 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i7 860 - 2.8 GHz Stock (Turbo Boost off) - ilovejedd
48.05 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T - 3.33 GHz OC - ilovejedd (Turbo Core off)
46.44 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition - 3.2 GHz Stock -denimu

From the above chart, expected performance of the Phenom II X4 965BE is 49~51 FPS at stock. The i5-760 should perform the same as the i7-860.

Sorry I meant I5 760 which is the same as the i7 860 without the HT.

Thanks that pretty much answers my question (all other places I've read game the idea tha the i5 is better)

It's either i7 860 or i5 760 not i7 760 Tongue

Anyway both would probably be around the same speed as the phenom with a small speed edge for the i7 860 on PCSX2.

As i said earlier on your another post, think not only about PCSX 2, think of PC games too, Intel will be best for it, compared to AMD.
