Spybot is mostly on-demand scanning of the registry and has a very useful "Immunization" feature that's probably the most effective brand of spyware/virus protection. I don't use it's resident protection tho, called TeaTimer or something. I use Avast for resident protection.

I see what you mean. That "Immunization" does sound effective. But I'm having an issue with avira.... It won't update Sad

I'm currently running a scan using spybot to see if I have any viruses. If it doesn't find anything, Maybe its just server issues Mellow

EDIT, nvm and WTF

788 minutes until update finishes Blink Must be the server cause I have cable connection.

Huh yeah update's crappy atm for some reason here too, maybe they got a virus in the server!

The autoupdate on avira is basically invisible I've never have problems with it at all, manual updates I never run tho xD

Avira is still having issues with updating but I like the set up I have so far. Avira + use spybot to scan (and or avira) and I'm using comodo's firewall. I did some searching around and it seems comodo has the best free firewall out there.

Comodo's firewall also has a proactive defense system which alerts you (depending on the level you set it as) of all executable files, set your own protected files, your own safe files, protects your registry, etc etc.

I don't think the extra defense is necessary though and you can remove it off comodo whenever you want.

I've used Comodo firewall in the past, and I must say, if you spend the time to configure it, it is definitely a very good solution. It's very customizable.

Avira and malwarebytes for me. Even though spybot seemed like it was protecting my system with all of it's features, it really didn't. malwarebytes however, is super light and very reliable and it has a really good detection rate. After I got rid of spybot, malwarebytes was able to find like 6 instances of spyware that spybot never picked up on despite all of the scans, immunization etc.

RE: Anti Virus Programs
Well, I found some useful info about Avira and the updating issues.

Look at this and there is the update file.

According to the forums there, anytime there is a big update now a days, the server is extremely slow, at the same time, they aren't getting enough money to get more servers for us free users.

Just download the file, open avira and go to update, then manual update and select the downloaded file and you will be up to date.

EDIT: don't extract the zip file.
