Are you excited about The Dark Knight Rises?
In a nutshell, are you excited about the new Batman film? Will you be seeing it? Myself, I intend to go to the cinema on Friday the 20th, when it's supposedly being released.

I haven't been to cinema in years. Not even for the Muppets. So the fact I'm going to see this is some indication of my interest.

Whaaaat?! I mean, I'm not keen on Hathaway playing Catwoman. But I like Christian Bale. And Michael Cain is incapable of acting poorly. And Heath Ledger's Joker was pretty sweet.

yeah christian bale played as batman was was really cool and it was like it was meant to be his role and also Heath Ledger being the Joker was irreplaceable, and don't really know what you meant by "the cast has ruined batman in my eyes" because in my point of view this is one of the batman movies i would watch... well im not also keen on hathaway playing as catwoman

IMO The Dark Knight was one of the best films ever, in every aspect. I don't think the Dark Knight Rises will be better but it will be pretty high on my to-see list, just cause of Christopher Nolan

I think that The Dark Knight was a decent film for what it is and Heath Ledger's performance was exemplary but it doesn't feel like Batman anymore.

The last sort of light-hearted superhero Batman film I think was Batman Forever, you only need to watch the original series to see what Batman used to be like Tongue.

Now it's just a generic dark and serious film with a bloke with a deep voice grunting about how crap everything is. Lost it's charm imo.

RE: Are you excited about The Dark Knight Rises?
I hate to break it to you, but Batman and Robin/Batman Forever were abominations. Joel Schumacher took the slightly camp aspects of prior Batman incarnations and made them SUPER DUPER GAY.

Bane in a tutu?
Robin?
Rubber nipple grooves on the Batsuit?
Making the Batmobile look like a *****?

Christopher Nolan's Batman is indeed different from previous incarnations. But this was fully intentional. It's the same reason the James Bond films changed when Brosnan became Bond with Goldeneye. Batman has a cold, raw realism to him that 'superheroes' like Superman cannot match. Batman is just a man in a suit. Superman can melt metal with his eyes.

I'm honestly not a big fan of Batman Begins. I adore the Dark Knight. Mostly because of Ledger's onscreen magnetism as the Joker. It's my hope that TDKR can at least match The Dark Knight. I would be delighted if it exceeded it. Christopher Nolan is a very skilled director; then again, ever artist has to have their dud. (Some cynics might argue that Inception meets this criteria.)

It's almost like you think that's a bad thing? Tongue

"cold, raw realism"

The sort of realism that means being plucked out of a skyscraper in Hong Kong by a cargo plane and somehow not getting shot down.

I just meant theres so many of the depressed, "cold and "raw" characters around at the moment that it adds to a generic feel.

Superheros I think are in themselves not realistic and should all retain their own individual charms. If you want a super-serious film then don't use a superhero Blink

Edit: Ofc unless they were intended to be so, like The Punisher etc

And your point about how James Bond has changed only proves my point.. No longer is it about gadgets, wit and class.. but being a MAN! YEAH! More generic material Sad

RE: Are you excited about The Dark Knight Rises?
Thing is, though, Batman was originally dark and gritty. Then he became camp in the 60s. Then Tim Burton made him dark again. Then Joel Schumacher turned him into a homoerotic fantasy of rubber nipples and codpieces. And everyone laughed. Except the people who were angry at what had been done to Batman.

Even the guy who played Robin reflected that Batman and Robin was weird. As in, bad weird. As in, "why am I wearing this massive thing which draws attention to my package" weird.

And everybody noticed in retrospect that the Batmobile now looked like a giant man-tool on wheels.

edit:

I agree about Bond. Hopefully Skyfall is going to get Bond back on track. Because the last two were Bourne-lite.
