Audio problem with Ar tonelico 2(SLUS 21788)[New one]
#1
Hey, look, I made a support thread instead of answering one!

Okay, so here is the problem. In the aforementioned game, when a character portrait goes to load on the screen at the same time an audio clip plays, the audio garbles.

So basically, every time we transition to spoken dialog, the first line is garbled.

It's not a huge deal, but I'd like it to stop.

Specs in profile.

Settings all default, default speedhacks. Native res. From an ISO.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the game itself. I think it's loading data from two different places at once (Portrait, and audio clip) and that somehow causes the audio to break up.

This game had lots of disc based slowdown on the actual PS2, actually. It was the game that caused me to start using HD Loader.

Maybe not on PS2 with a REALLY good optical. But you've seen videos of the battle in Ar tonelico 2 right? How in the defense phase it's basically a mini rhythm game and you have to time the button presses to block? On a real PS2(mine anyway) a lot of times the attack animation will be loading at the same time as you are pushing buttons and lag it out and cause you to miss.

That and the nearly game breaking glitch at the end. There's a patch for it, but you gotta have a softmod to use it obviously. The crash doesn't happen in PCSX2 though.

In the second to last boss battle, when they translated a string of text they made it too long in English. It causes a buffer overflow and the game locks up.

So it's the second hardest boss in the game, and she always uses that attack on the third round of battle. So the only two ways around it are power level until you can kill her in 2 turns, or patch the game.

But since PCSX2 is an emulator, it somehow gracefully handles the buffer overflow.

I beat this game using 1.0 a good while back without any sound issues. Have you tried playing with 1.0 stable?
