Best CPU for PCSX2?
#1
Assuming price is not an issue what CPU is the best for PCSX2? Or at least ones that come close to the highest end. I've been looking at benchmarks for the new Skylake i7's and their not much better in single threaded performance than my aging i5-3470 (blows it away overall with much higher core counts but single threaded performance is not that much better)

PassMark (Single Core)
Core i7 6700K
2,320

Core i5 3470
1,906

I'm trying to figure out if there is any CPU on the market worth upgrading to and emulator performance is one of the higher on the list right under game performance.

i7-4790K and the i7-6700K

4790K is slightly better for your budget, and a little bit better with STP. Both are monster CPUs for PCSX2 and even any other stuff you want to do.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.60~4.20 GHz | Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200
MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Super @ 6 GB | Samsung 980 1TB | Windows 10 Pro x64 (22H2)

Looks like the 4790k is actually the more expensive of the 2

4790k $524

Not sure what that $524 one is... but this should be the one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819117369&cm_re=i7-4790k_processor-_-19-117-369-_-Product

I ran the single thread benchmark on my cpu and got a score of ~2500 with a pretty modest overclock. If your rig is just for gaming and emulators I'd go with an unlocked i5 and save the $100. Just make sure you get a decent heatsink with it as the stock ones are terrible.

Could get the i5 6600K if I'm going that route

I agree with JonyeGway, get an unlocked i5 and overclock at as much as you can. 400 points may not seem like much, but it can be a large difference. Considering "most" games require around 1500-1800, with the really strong ones requiring ~around~ 2200. At 2500 or so, you're pretty much set and "should" be able to run everything, unless the issue is no longer your rig and is with PCSX2/the game you're trying to play.

Any recent Intel processor will be great for PCSX2. Avoid AMD for PCSX2 though.

He said money is no issue so how is a Skylake 6700K *not* the best suggested CPU? Can't it be OC'ed to 4.8Ghz on a Corsair H110 cooler?

Because while money is no issue...why spend more if it won't affect his performance?

He could save 100-200$ and get the same performance in 98% of games. It's of no issue, but is 1-2% worth 100-200$?
