Just wanted some info regarding Tales of the Abyss.
The game is running well. Some slowdown in towns and on field map, and stutters when entering combat, but otherwise full speed.
I recently downloaded a newer revision of PCSX2 (r4866) and enabled MTVU, saw a nice improvement.
Currently the game generally runs at full speed, but there is still occasional slowdown in the music/speech, and stuttering when entering combat. Is there a revision, or specific settings for running this game that would completely eliminate those? If not so be it, but just want to be sure I'm not missing something. Specifically, it can at times slow down as low as 38-40fps in towns, and down to 50 in the field and during scene transitions from black (scene load). Revision 4866 helped a lot, I'm seeing a boost and my EE hasn't gone above 77% since updating (was getting as high as 98% previously, though, again, rarely).
I'm running all check box hacks except fast disc loading. EE and VU hacks are disabled. I tried VU at 1 and 2, and saw a huge boost, and audio completely normalized, but it seemed primarily due to frameskipping or something, and led to crashing. Upping the EE helped at first, but in some areas caused bigger slowdowns so I turned it off. I'm just wondering if a newer revision (looking at the changelog info for r4911 specifically) may provide a bit more boost in performance. If not I can live with it.
EDIT - also, I should add I'm playing in DX9 HW mode. I tried DX 11. Seems to run fine and FMVs are smoother actually, but in-game it causes some weird lighting issues, where "bloom" or "glow" effects seem offset from the object casting the effect. DX9 seems to work fine, however.
My specs:
AMD Athlon II X3 @ 3.2Ghz / 4000Mhz FSB
8 GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz
ATI Radeon HD 6670 1GB
250 GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD @ 3.0GB transfer rate
Windows 7
PS - great work on the emulator folks. I've followed this project off and on since around 0.9.4 and the progress since 0.9.6 (after the long period without updates, and then BAM here's 0.9.7) has been amazing.
