ISO will have less of a performance impact on your playing, as long as you have the space to do so, i recommend it.

what if I mounted a iso on a virtual drive would that be the same as using the disc?

CD 52x speed
DVD= 16x speed
ISO = 80x to 120x speed on my hd

It would be less effective than using the linuz ISO plugin to run the ISO directly. This maximizes emulation speed from the CD/DVD side of things.

so just running it directly from the iso I would get the best performance. Possibly even a fps incress??

For some instances. It's mostly for faster load times. You want to run the ISO directly, because running through a virtual drive is basically adding another step of emulation that you don't really need and eats up more resources.
