Can I run FFs with these specs?
#1
Hey guys! I'm new here.
I'm upgrading a Sempron 3200+ to an Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3.0 Ghz next week.

So my PC will be like this:
Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3.0Ghz
1.5 GB DDR2 667
256 MB 8400GS 64-bit 459CORE/333MEM/918SHADER OC'ed to 567/404/1134

Now my question is:
Will I run FFX and FFXII in this setup at a playable speed around 50+FPS?

Yea I know my gfx card sucks but I can't upgrade it until June and I heard that PCSX2 is more CPU dependent. Thanks in advance!
Athlon X2 5400+ ~ 2.8GHz / 2.5GB DDR2 667 / 9500GT 512MB / Windows 7

You will run just fine.. 60 FPS for FF X, and about 30 - 40 FPS for FF XII

My spec:
XPS M1330
Penryn T8100
2 * 2GB DDR2 667 Mhz
128mb 8400GS

Although my processor is more powerful than yours, but you have a better GPU than mine. If you don't require the game to run at best solution, you can check 'Native' in GSDX settings, and running at 60 FPS should not be a problem at all.

Use the latest PCSX2 0.9.6 (I don't think latest beta require to run this game at

that GS class is still weak in bandwidth even you OC it better switch to GT as a 128-bit bandwidth or above to be fair enough in addition to GDDR3

best to use Native in GSdx detting as torrent advise you do so.

I can't answer your question, but I'm playing FFXII at the moment. I have a Core i7 920, 2.6ghz@4ghz, and a 8800GT. I'm using gsdx10 0.1.14, 1280x720. For the boss I'm fighting right now, if I unlimit my FPS, I get 80. If I set it to native, that climbs to 90. The FPS numbers for idling in an outdoor environment are 160 and 160.

If you want this to be useful to you, you can check tomshardware.com for CPU charts to learn how your cpu compares to mine (and consider that I'm overclocking by (4/2.6 * 100) %). I'm not sure which benchmark best predicts PCSX2 performance, but you should ignore any benchmark chart that uses more than 2 cores (i.e. if same-family, same-clock quad cores are seriously beating their dual core counterparts).

You might already know this but with your video card you probably won't be able to raise your internal resolution above native.

Thanks for the responses and the tips guys! I really appreciate it. Smile
What do you guys mean running at native?Huh Running at the resolution the PS2 uses? Sorry I'm new to this.
Btw, I don't mind having the graphics turned down or so. I just want it to be at playable FPS.

Another question:
Is 30FPS in PCSX2 slow motion?

Slow is relative... It's half speed Smile.

A 8600 GT DDR3 can be had for ~$40 if you look hard enough... no need to go for another 8400. Or a 9600 GT for $80 (very fast even for newest PC games, at lower resolutions like 1280x1024).

Thanks. I'm actually eyeing for a 9600 GT. Tongue It's around $100 here in my country.

Heh, everyone wants to run FFX on their computers. The majority of the threads and videos are for FFX, its like the emulators flaghip.

Windows XP SP2
Asus P5kpl-vm Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53ghz(Overclocked to 2.81ghz)
BFG GeForce 9600GT OC 512mb
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048 (2x1gb)
CM Extreme Power Plus 460w/12v Power Supply
WD SATA 250gb HD

haha I had a 8600 GT and just upgraded to a 9600 GT last summer. My best spent $100 (at that time). I can run almost all PC games at >40fps (aka, smooth enough for me) on highest settings at 1280x1024. "Almost" because of crysis Smile, but I can even run crysis fine at high (not very high) settings with 2xAA. No sweat with PCSX2 of course, all limited by CPU.

I finished it a few months ago. It's a nice game Smile.

Too bad FFX-2 is a total joke, though. *offtopic* and that PSP thing (crisis core), too... they are surely going downhills */offtopic*
