Can't change japanese language in Silent Hill 3
#1
I'm following the instructions found in this thread, but I can't make it work.
I've selected "No disc" in "CDVD", then "Boot Full", and the System Language there is correct. But when I proceed with "Boot Full" with the game, I can catch a glimpse of the original text before it turns into Japanese.

Could someone help?

Just to complete the information:

You tried fast & full boot and you always get japanese signs? Is it really japanese or is it a graphics glitch and softwaremode might fix it?
Your bios is set to english?

Have you tried redumping your cd using imgburn or playing directly the cd? Have you tried linuz cdvd-plugin (would not expect to see a difference but who knows)?

To the others: Are these '¥' usual in the emu-log?

I have this game and I experienced similar things. I tested both a demo version of the game and the retail version, they both defaulted to Japanese text. All I had to do in both versions was go into the options menu on the main menu and set the language to English. After that, upon booting the game and it loading my settings, the game is in 100% English with no problems. Played through the whole game and beat it multiple times on the emu on PCSX2 1.0.0 before I started using SVN's.

As for the cause of this bug, no idea why it happens but I currently use SVN r5725 and it doesn't appear to be fixed yet. However it's not game-breaking I don't think, because like I said, I fixed it by simply changing the language within the game options itself.

I suspect the issue is the first time you ever run the game on the emulator you will have to use full boot, once it's saved the game information (not your save game) you're screwed till you change it in the menu.

so not really a bug, just our fast boot is a hack and thus will cause issues ;p

Actually, I could swear the first time I tried to run it it wasn't in Japanese. But after 30 seconds I turned it off, and the day after I had to reinstall Windows...
I'll try with a new installation and full boot, and I'll report here if it works.

EDIT: You were right. After reinstalling everything, I full booted the game and it wasn't Japanese anymore. Then I tried the fast boot and still no Japanese.

Thank you all for the help Smile
