Cheap or Bargain Video Card Suggestion Needed
#1
Hi guys,

I was comparing some of the video cards that I want to use for my PC. I think my pc is a dual core. I dont use it much so I forgot what it is. Smile However, I came across the EVGA GeForce 9500 GT Video Card which I believe has 1GB of GPU. If I have a strong enough CPU / Memory, would this be a cost effective solution for me.

I would like to keep the video card price to under $100 and be able to operate PCSX2 at a functional speed...

then find out what is the cpu you have, it will help us suggest a good video card. also 9500 is very bad, you can take a better one at this price
OS: Win 7 Ultimate x64 sp1, MoBo: Asus P5QD Turbo, CPU: Q6600 @ 3,0Ghz, RAM: Trancend 2x2gb 6-6-6-18 800 MHz, GPU: HD 4850 1gb.

If you aren't sure of your CPU, download cpu-z to find out. It'll also tell you your clock speed which might be useful.

Nvidia 9800/9600 or Radeon 4850/4770/5670 for under $100.

Hey, thanks for all your quick replies. When I get home, I'll definitely see what it is. I barely used the desktop computer except for CISCO studies, so I'll post my specs later today.

It is all well and good saying "I'm going to get a new video card", but what power supply do you have?

If your power supply is not capable of providing enough power constantly, it will be under too much strain, running the risk of blowing, and when that happens the majority of the time it will take out other components with it, so you will not just be out a power supply, but you will haev to get other components too, so what started as a video card for under $100, turned into a number of components for alot more
Mobo: Asus M4A79XTD EVO
CPU: AMD 720BE @3.4GHz @ 1.4V
Memory: 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz
Graphics: EVGA GTX 260 @700/1500/1100
HDD: 500GB Samsung F3 + 500GB Storage

If you have the money, you should really consider what sakraycore said.

If you'd rather spend less, at least get this. If you count the rebate, it's the same price (on this site) as the card you mentioned. $15 more otherwise, but much better.

Yet again, if you don't care about rebates, you're still spending almost $100. It isn't much more for a MUCH better card (Nvidia 9800/9600 or Radeon 4850/4770/5670)

And if your the type to value rebates, check out these 9800GT cards: EVGA, ASUS, and XFX.
Only $20-$30 more than the "cheap one's", but very worth it.

BTW 1gb of video RAM isn't entirely necessary. 512mb should not hold a more powerful card back.

True, but I've yet to see a PC game "Recommend" more than 512mb V-RAM, other than Crysis with 640mb "Recommended". Still only "Requires" 256mb, anyway. Again, 1gb is not necessary. Tongue

Besides, isn't it safe to assume he's asking in reference to PCSX2? I mean, we are on the PCSX2 Forums after all.

Cool! I wasn't too sure myself which of the 3 to recommend. I had a feeling "EVGA", "ASUS" and "XFX" were all decent choices, though. Plus, the prices are right. Smile

512MB VRAM if resolution is 1600x1200 or lower, 1GB if resolution is 1920x1200 or higher, 2GB if 3/6 monitors Eyefinity.
Nappa: Vegeta! What does the scouter say about his power level?
Vegeta: It's...one thousand and six.
Nappa: Wh-...really?
Vegeta: Yeah! Beat him up Nappa!
Nappa: Yay!
