CheatEngine as alternative to patch files?
For a long while now i've been messing around in CheatEngine, making tables for most games i play. So far, games i've tried have been tested positive for cheating with it, with only Digimon World Data Squad showing signs that memory locations are different each time you load, but maybe that was me messing up.

I'm no expert user at all, but for Monster Hunter for example, i am able to freeze my health at whatever amount i want, give myself infinite amount of items (once i acquire at least one piece), money..

I'm not quite sure if those settings will apply to different saves or systems with different amounts/type of RAM (if that's even the case with cheatengine), but so far results were promising. Tell me what you think :3

RE: CheatEngine as alternative to patch files?
For pcsx2 I think it would matter depending on the system(the address will be probably different)but that was before. Now pcsx2 is using fixed memory range. What you find is exactly the same(well almost)if you use the Pnach finder from the old gui of pcsx2.

For example,if you find a cheat in Cheat Engine at address
20001234 00000023
in pcsx2 it will be almost the same.
00001234 00000023
or 21001234 00000023 to 01001234 00000023
The first digit is changed depending on what code type you are going to use(with byte, short and word is the same but with extended, the digit is changed depending on how long the code is
0-FF to 0
0-FFFF to 1
0-FFFFFFFF to 2)

I use ArtMoney as memory searching program....I tried Cheat Engine but I still prefer ArtMoney.

I still use the pnach system from time to time because there I can use condensed codes

Valkyrie Profile 2 is another game that changes the addresses for things each time you start pcsx2

P4 2.8GHz,6600GT,1024 RAM
Cheats decrypter/converter/editor and more

Oh, it makes sense now. I didn't know about this fixed memory range, which i guess is the reason why i never saw a connection between the memory addresses in pnach and cheatengine. There are some neat tricks incorporated there, i'll be sure to give it a try Smile
