Dark Cloud 2 Playability
#1
I was wondering how good Dark Cloud 2 would run on my system with these specs. I've also checked this here and I think I'd be able to get a reasonable playability on it. Thanks. Specs are as follows.

Motherboard socket: 775
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD7870 2GB
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.8GHz (Can overclock to 3.2Ghz)
RAM: 4GB
Case with 6 fans
1.1TB HDD

Thanks guys!

If anything your CPU will hold you back. But if you do the OC and use MTVU and maybe EE cycle rate hack you can probably hit playable speed.

Why not just try it out?

If I remember correctly, the last time I tried the game on my ancient PC,the speed was above 10 or maybe 15 so I don't think you'll have problems.

Before jumping to x times scaling and other extras, try the game with default settings

Eh, I'd say that the OP should try all his/her options within the emulator (speedhacks/tweaks/etc) before even considering OC'ing.

I don't yet have the parts. I currently have ordered some new fans, have a new HDD, and a new case coming with some fans. (And a cooling case part, which I will get in time) The best CPU that I can get with my socket is currently QX9650, but the Q9550 too much less powerful then the QX9650. There is also QX9770, but I heard most BIOS' on the 775 socket don't support the Processor.

Would you suggest that I get these parts and try it out? I'm wondering if all the other bits are up to scratch, I'll test it and might only have to upgrade my CPU.

If anything, I'll be playing the game on the lowest settings possible to try and get the best playability. I know that the combat in the game can be quite demanding at times though. If that runs fine, I'll play with that, but if not I'll try OC. If that fails, I'll try OC with hacks and such.

All your other parts are fine. I JUST finished making a recommended CPU guide:

a Core 2 Quad will surely play some games at full speed, but not all. Any other games you wanna play?

Wow! That is a really sweet guide with some useful tips, I'll be sure to read it through and contribute when I can. Other games I want to play? Hmm, let's see.

.Hack// Infection
Jade Cocoon 2 - Currently not on list official PCSX2 list
Final Fantasy X
Ratchet and Clank (Is extremely demanding)
Dynasty Warriors 2
Digimon World 4
Kingdom Hearts
Resident Evil 4
Soul Calibur 2
Mobile Suit Gundam
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
Time Splitters 2
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2

That's all I can really think of right now Tongue

I'm also checking the PCSX2 Wiki to make sure these games are playable and such. Please note - I do not have these upgrades yet and are simply asking for advice and opinion from some well - experts, and people who know what they are doing.

The best advice I could give you is go ahead and get a new motherboard while you are at it, and a more modern cpu instead of C2Q.

Or have you ordered stuff already?

I've not ordered the stuff already, but I'm on a budget you see. Getting a new Mobo, GFX, RAM and CPU can be fairly expensive. I'm not too sure what the budget is at I'm currently on as I'm working for it. I'm just wondering if this could hold me over.

New Mobo is about £80
Ram is about £80
and an i5 now is about £150
£300 total around about.
