Intel Core i7-2635QM 2.00 GHz (with turbo boost)
4 GB RAM

Some generic options... so experiment to see what works for you. MTVU hack is good, make sure you're in hardware mode. Use latest SVN to make sure you are using the Nvidia card in the GSdx plugin settings, not Intel HD graphics. Also see is EE timing and VU cycle stealing help. Sometimes they help, sometimes they make things worse, hence they are hacks. Your laptop has low amount of ghz for pcsx2. Make sure your laptop is in high performance mode.

Other option is software mode with 5 extra rendering threads.

But, if all else fails, read page 1 of this thread.

OS: Linux Mint 17.2 64 bit (occasional Antergos/Arch user)
(I am no longer a Windows user)
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258
GPU: Nvidia GTX 650 Ti

5 extra rendering threads not needed
it'll make gameplay slow
3 is the best option for more than dual core cpus & 2 is best option for dual core cpus Smile

I thought those threads were for software mode only...
With his CPU, he should likely stay away from software mode when possible.
