Different BIOS for different regions
So, this is something I've always wondered about consoles in general. Why is there a different BIOS for each region a console is sold in? What exactly is handled in the BIOS that would require a different one for each region? Does coding for the PCSX2 become inherently more difficult because each BIOS version has to be accounted for?

The discussion started here:
http://forums.pcsx2.net/thread-5667-page-3.html

Now, I moved it to here so I could stop hijacking that thread.

No, I do not plan on asking questions to find out which is "better" and go jack it for my emulation. I'm quite happy with my USA 2.0 BIOS and I do not relish the idea of potentially being thrown in prison. This is a just a curiosity that I have always wondered about.

RE: Different BIOS for different regions
personally I have noticed none. my original ps2 (rip) had a JP scph-10000, but no one believed it (US ps2 btw, really close to launch) the one we have now is a 39001 (us v1.6) i still have the same isses with certain games so as far as I have seen it makes 0 difference

psp has about 7 regions, each update can be used on an system, so it's more registry than bios, and I can get screens to prove this. (psp custom firmware ftw)

RE: Different BIOS for different regions
Different versions in bios were made from Sony not us Tongue Some newer versions have additional features like some dvd player things but nothing that affects emulation.
