Does PCSX2 take advantage of more than 4 cores?

How it breaks down for me in one game(Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex):

0 extra threads: 35 FPS
1 extra thread: 50 FPS
2 extra thread: 60 FPS
3 extra thread: 63 FPS

Each extra thread brings diminishing returns.

I think your non linear results are from Hyperthreading cores. The big jumps are threads that are getting their own full cores.

BTW my test case was Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex

That is a VERY interesting result, 8 threads being faster than 3 in Mana Khemia, it must issue a lot of smaller draw calls which can be easily spread across the threads in software mode. I think that is the first time I've seen HT possibly come in handy. I would be curious to see your results with HyperThreading disabled to confirm that it "does" help in that scenario.

I missed this earlier. I do have Mana Khemia. I will do some tests. Where were you at when you tested so I can make it as consistent as possible?

I'm amused by those using 'XXXM' mobile chipsets and then complaining about poor performance. Just sayin.
My system (with 2+ year old hardware that wasn't even the best possible hardware at the time of purchase) can run FFXII (standard and IZJS) without slowdowns during quickening or otherwise. Rarely does it dip below 58+ FPS and only when there are many mobs/magic effects on screen. Quickenings work without issues.

I noticed the report in the CPU/GPU problem games thread and just wanted to point this out. We really shouldn't be taking reports from laptop users for any 'problem' games. If you go to a GPU benchmark website you'll see even high-end mobile GPUs are worse than most mid-range standard cards in power/performance.

My rig has slowdown during quickenings. It's not a laptop, or a weak desktop either. I didn't believe that guy who was reporting that either, but I tried it myself and it's definitely there.

I gotcha. It seems odd that my specific setup doesn't have it, but that may be because I'm using all the Speedhacks without any Cycle Stealing.

-mVU Flag Hack
-MTVU

I'll have to mess around a bit more and see if I can get it to occur.

EDIT: Just thought of it but it may be because I'm playing the IZJS version and that might have fixed this issue somehow? Maybe? ^_^

Nope, IZJS is what I tested with.

It's only in certain quickenings though, and I forget which ones. And it's a GPU issue. It only happens to me with 3x or higher. But given that my card is pretty good, and I've heard of it happening to some people in native, that's why I included it.
