Does Vista run this emulator faster than XP?
#1
I read the configuration guide, and the guy said that running "Direct3D10" in GSDX is the "fastest" mode, and it's only possible with Vista.

(that's strange.. I figured with Aero and 64bit desktop, Vista should be running it SLOWER.. not faster..)

But anyways, how much faster is it on Vista? Is it significantly faster? or is it just barely noticeable faster?

My specs:
Windows XP Home SP2
C2Q G0 Q6600 2.4ghz
4gb DDR2 RAM (dual)
Radeon HD 4850 512mb
640gb Western Digital HDD
Antec Earthwatts 500w PSU

Vista Home Premium 64-bit | E8500 @4.2GHz (526x8) ~1.30V
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P | 4Gb 1066mhz Corsair XMS2
Radeon HD 4850 OC 10% | 1.14TB (640+500gb) WDC
Antec Nine Hundred | Antec Earthwatts 500w

Say what you want about Vista, but the kernel it's built on is very solid and (imho) very good. Aero does take a chunk of processing power, but the system is intelligent enough to sideline it when you're running a DirectX application. Basically, it's a non-issue. If you're really worried about it, run it full screen and Aero is essentially disabled completely.

DirectX 10 is, in general, much much better than DirectX 9. DX10 makes guarantees to the system that 9 never could, and combined with more powerful hardware it's a winning combination.

For me, a lot faster. 20 FPS or so, and it really depends on the game. This may be because I only have Vista to run PCSX2, and isn't cluttered with all my work stuff.

Good for you, didn't notice much of a difference in speed myself when I make the switch from XP to Vista 64-bit.

not only faster, but there seems to be fewer graphical glitches under GSDX10 mode instead of GSDX9(L), from my experience anyway.
