This was all kind of a proof of concept, since I'm not gaming much ATM (the 9800GT is underpowered for games like Batman AC), I just felt like playing some good old punch punch lol. Anyhow, I'm probably upgrading to a 6870 so then I should be able to play full hd @ 60fps Rolleyes . No use tinkering any more if the GPU isn't powerful enough, I guess I'll just play aliased or wait...

Thanks guys!

id go with the more recent card and avoid ati/amd for emulation purposes.
the gtx 660 direct cu II is a great card for its price to suggets a card in the wild Tongue
also be sure if you upgrade, that the power supply has enough juice to run it. (take age and wattage in consideration because a psu will lose power over time)

Well I scored a 6870 for $125, I know it's not the best but a 35% performance increase for 60% price increase (for a 660) just isn't worth it.
I have the hard to push it + 2 6870s more lol (OCZ Z 850W)

you can get better then a 6870 for 125$ im sure of it, that card is almost considered ancient compared to the 7xxx series. get a gtx 560 ti direct cu II top instead that will out perfom the 6870.

edit: see that you already bought the 6870?

ancient in terms of software features? Cuz as I said the 7850 for example only has a 25% performance advantage, the 660 35%, etc. I haven't been able to find a better deal, shipped... I already have the 6870, but I'm also building another rig, so it could always be repurposed...

BTW, this 9800GT is an EE model, it can only draw 75W, basically it can't be overclocked. I have it on a VF1000, so it's basically running passive (120mm fan @ 500RPM controlled by CPU load, so it gets up to 1200RPM in games, still keeps the GPU a chilly 15ºC delta).

not every card performs the same you know? and by 25% and 33% etc where do you get this info?

the 6870 is ancient compaired to the 7xxx series is because of the architechture the 7xxx series use and they are WAY better in overclocking then the 6xxx series could ever do.

shame you cant oc the 9800 then your stuck at 2x native, not that it looks bad mind you Tongue

Well I was just reading a new article at tom's hardware so that's were I was getting my numbers from.

I have heard that the 7 series are nice overclockers, however I don't plan to do so since I like my PC quiet

overclocking doesnt mean more noise, it all depents on what kind of overlcock you are doing and what cooler you have on them, artic coolers tend to be more quit on 100% then your cpu cooler on low idle so yah.

but w/e this is WAY offtopic and i suggets opening a new topic if you want to debate/discuss this further.
