Thanks for that info. I will try and match your settings as close as I can and give it another shot. I have the PAL SCES 50006 DVD.
Your info says you had minor graphical glitches...does that include the messed up trees, ground and NPC textures like in our screenshots above or were they not that bad for you?

I get the same results with directx 9 or 10 so far. I'm going to stick with PCSX2 -r1888, since the freezing is fixed, and concentrate on the graphical glitches.
I'm not sure what these settings are in your description. Can't find any options that resemble those in PCSX2 -r1888: "EE x2, INTC, IOP x2, Idle Loop, VU Stealing 3"

Just fyi, I found the revision that breaks the tree textures. It's a path3 masking issue, so no telling if it'll ever be fixed again.
The last working rev would be r1384.

Oh, I would not know how to compile dog poo...but, I did google a bit and found version 0.9.7.1913 (can't find the exact link again now but TONS of versions here: *removed*)
Results:
1. Very little trouble with the graphics on the trees. I saw it but only briefly and only once or twice.
2. With the speed hacks/tweaks, it was running at 100% and even a bit over at time...very, very fast compared to 0.9.6 or the 1888 release on the PCSX2 page.
3. I can't find anyway to run the PS2 bios alone to set up language and time and all that.
