Error trying to play Grandia II
#1
In my command prompt I get this "[wx] Failed to load shared library 'C:\Users\Dylan\Downloads\PCSX2 1.2.1\Plugins\gsdx32-avx2-r5875.dll' (error 1114: a dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.)
Path: C:\Users\Dylan\Downloads\PCSX2 1.2.1\Plugins\gsdx32-avx2-r5875.dll
File is not a valid dynamic library.
Some kinda plugin failure: C:\Users\Dylan\Downloads\PCSX2 1.2.1\Plugins\gsdx32-avx2-r5875.dll".

The first two screens of the companies names and logos appear and then it is just a light greyish/brown screen and I have to manually shut down the entire PCSX2 program. I am using version 1.2.1. My CPU is AMD A8-3500 with 3.5GHz and 8GB RAM. I have been able to play most other PS2 games which I tried. Certainly even if they play slowly or with minor issues they don't completely fail to load like is the case with Grandia II. Any ideas?

Well, for the first part you selected a plugin your processor doesn't have support. That's just a warning since the emulator should fallback to a working version. Better is selecting the correct plugin yourself, I believe the APU is able to play the AVX plugin, if not try the SSE4.1.

For the actual problem there isn't enough data to make a diagnostic, the game should run. Please post the emulog.txt so we can see what is happening in the background preventing the game to start.

First things first, select the correct GS plugin, if the problem persists make another ISO from the original, use imgburn application to it.

Doesn't that mean AVX is not only available but is also selected?

Just tried switching it to SSE41 and same exact problem occurred

Actually I didn't expect that selecting the correct plugin would resolve the issue (the emulator falls back to a working one anyway), just to get rid the annoying message.

So, that game should not have problems to start, maybe the ISO is corrupted, then the proposal to make a new one.

Ok thanks. This might not be the right thread to ask this, but it is true that my computer is basically not good enough to truly do PS2 emulation yes? I have experienced massive slowdowns in a number of games such as Valkyrie Profile 2, Star Ocean 3, Rogue Galaxy.... it played "simpler" games fine such as Disgaea or FFX. Surprisingly it plays FFXII almost perfectly as well even though that game appears fairly resource intensive. It's just frustrating that evidently AMD Is just the "wrong" brand for emulation, something I did not know when selecting the computer... oh well

Overclocking to at least 4ghz and at least 1866mhz ram would help. Ram speeds do matter when working with an APU like you have.

The APU should be able to play some the average demanding games with help of a bit of speed hacks. How much the APU tirbo function can increase tje clock. Depending on the answer the OC might not be necessary.

Valkyrie Profile is tricky because it is very sensible to EE cycle rate and might break the sound synchronization easily, yet it accepts VU cycle rate at 2 with just a minor lag at some points. But you are right some slowdown is expect on the mentioned games at some parts.
