FMV upscaling
#1
Does upscaling make the FMV any better? Or is it technically possible to improve the quality of the FMV? Currently, it seems the FMV looks the same regardless of the render resolution.

FMV's are not rendered 3d, so they cannot be upscaled.

Thanks for the information. It would be nice if in the future all FMV's/movies are rendered in 3D.

Depending on the machine and game yo may want to try changing the texture filtering.

About FMV rendered in 3d, that will depend on new games being produced for PS2...

Impossible. Upscaling is all you can do and that comes with loss of quality, usually blurryness. To "render" and FMV in a higher resolution would require the source FMV, probably also something along the lines of re-shooting every scene because whatever was already captured is low-resolution and thus useless etc etc.

So yes, forget it.

Ok thanks coornio for explaining everything.
I said it because fmvs render in Higher resolution.it'll be awesome.
It'll be the same experience when we watch a movie Smile

Well, you can think of FMVs as movie files used in PS2 games, in other words they are just video clips played back every now and then during gameplay... Pretty much all you can do, is to stretch it on your screen (like any video or picture).
If a HD remake of an existing game were to be made, it could be theoretically possible for a studio to re-render the existing 3d animation cutscenes into a higher resolution.

Could do bicubic/lancoz instead of bilinear (assuming that's the upscaling used) but the difference isn't that big.
