Failed to power up
Ok so I finally assembled the configuration.
PSU: Cooler Master RP-650-PCAP
MB: Biostar's TP67B+
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k
GPU: Gigabyte's Radeon HD 6870 OC
RAM: Patriot Signature 4GB DDR3 DIMM

And after I've assembled it, it powers up, and then turns off without any signal on the monitor.
Now the mainboard has 20+4 pin and 8-pin ATX 12V sockets, and my psu has only 20+4pin and 4-pin ATX 12V cables. So my question is can this be simply solved by using 4-pin to 8-pin adapter? I even read the instruction manual and troubleshooting but still no difference. What are you opinions?

RE: Failed to power up
It might be solved that way yes. for all means and purpose, what you expect to do will work, however i cant say if itll stop the shutting off, it generally does this when there is a short. Id personally unplug everything and go from bare minimum power cables and work up.

RE: Failed to power up
You recommend just connecting PSU to MB w/o the components? Thanks, but heck I don't like unplugging CPU especially now that I've use thermal paste, although I still have it on both the cooler and CPU itself.

RE: Failed to power up
obviously keep the cpu and cooler in there, you cant tell if its booted else. i mean just connect the minimal amount of power connectors from the power supply, so motherboard (ones you have) and the main 20+4 and see if you get beeps or anything, or at least stays on, if it does, connect something else and try again until you find out whats causing it to turn off.

RE: Failed to power up
you should do the bare minimal meaning CPU, one chip of ram, and a video card (make sure the PCI-E power cable are plugged into the video card), there should be two cables for the cpu power usually they are split in two 4 pin cables you combine to make a 8pin.

If your PSU doesn't have these cables then its most-likely not compliment with current pc-specs and I would avoid using any adapters since the psu probably isn't powerful enough.

going with hyakki on this, i would never trust an adapter that wasn't included with the psu.

RE: Failed to power up
I've found out new symptom. I've bought the adapter and everything is the same. However I've found out that once I remove the memory module (and leave the CPU+GPU) the system keeps on running. I still have no signal on the display however, but it doesn't power off. And it shouldn't be possible that memory is improperly set up because I even read the instruction manual. It says that memory needs to be installed in DDR3_A2 or DDR3_B2 for system to boot up. I've tried both and it turns off, and without memory I still get no signal on the screen.

RE: Failed to power up
you are putting the memory in the right way around and making sur eits seated correctly arent you? because that does sound like a short. If you are then the memory dimms are faulty.

can you try just 1 memory dimm and see if it still does it?

Its also possible that not having memory in there is just dwarfing the boot process and stopping it from hitting the real issue. what if you have memory in but no GPU for example?

RE: Failed to power up
I'm sure everything is how it's supposed to be. I only have one memory module. What I'm gonna try now is use DDR2 memory from my old PC, although I must check if the board is compatible first.

EDIT: With CPU and memory it turns off after 5 seconds again.

RE: Failed to power up
I seriously recommend you get a better PSU for your system.

You are putting quite a load on a PSU with efficientcy >70%,
which only has 18A 12V rails.
That model is also an old one.
Please don't tell me you bought it back in 2007...

It is true you don't need the full 8-pins,
but it does help OCing.
That's what you got that unlocked processor for, right?

I'd even be willing to bet this could solve your problems, my friend. Smile

FWIW - The 4-pin to 8-pin adapter is a joke.
Why would you need 8, if 4 could provide the same power?
The adapters literally are just spreading it from 4 to 8.
