Finally, PS2 hardware in 1080p
Doctorxyz, creator of GS Mode Selector, just released his new OPL_GSM that has full 1080p!!! But, the games still use their native resolution so it doesn't really change quality all that much, it is just awesome to see it outputting to 1080p. Hopefully with resolution hacks we can get the native resolution up a little in some games, so maybe the 1080p doesn't go to waste too much.

Does this make the earliest video game console to output to full HD?

ohh wow. ofc looks like sh*t native. i don't know what you expect? but if you raise hack the internal game resolution the games gonna run slower?

about native full hd. lol. you can calculate that. 4 megs GSmemory (4 * 1024 * 1024) - 1920 x 1080 = 47104 bytes for textures, 8-bit-palette framebuffer and no double buffering. means the graphics will mosdef flicker if you don't presort the display list top2bottom and rasterize immediately with in a frame to sync. this really nuts. anybody got a real demo for this? Laugh

I didn't mean bump it up to full HD! I meant bump the native up to at MOST 720p and it will look better. Jeez, I just said it is cool to see it actually outputting to 1920 x 1080. And adjusting native resolution to real high levels (like 720p) cause crashing and some garbage (on FFXII at least, no test for any others).

RE: Finally, PS2 hardware in 1080p
What would be the benefit of bringing native up to HD instead of upscaling like Pcsx2 does now anyway?

Edit: If it's just for a record I would say it's a false one since the definition of HD will change in the years to come. We've been stuck at 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 on most monitors/TVs for a while now but hopefully Apple's higher res screen(they call it retina) will set a new target for the industry at large.

1080 could quickly become SD like sega mega was to Ps1 to Ps2 etc etc

that native full hd was just an idea - nah a joke - to check on the real hardware with it's limitations. i wonder if one could like tweak and code maybe a bit of a 2.5d game that could really render into a full hd framebuffer and output that on full hd lcd. in theory it could. the ps2's specs are up to it. Haha, 8-bit color Smile

And Fezzer, it's not about benefits, it's just that it is possible to output to 1080p on actual PS2 hardware. And on psx-scene, there has also been some talk about using the 1080p feature by making the OPL GUI full HD with high-res cover art and such, that would be pretty cool.
