Framerate sometimes drop to 20fps from the usual 59fps

Hi, So I have PCSX2 1.0.0 with all the default settings
I'm running armored core 3 but during some battles my framerate drops to about 20fps. I check my windows task manager and my CPU or RAM isn't even at 100% or anywhere near it.

what are the main settings I can play around with to help keep the game at a steady FPS?

In order to help you further with your problem, please make sure the following are all provided.

• Your hardware specs - CPU, Graphics Card, Memory, Operating System.
  
• The version of PCSX2 you are using.
  
• Any non default settings you are using.
  
• What games you are trying to play and if you are playing them from ISO or DVD.
