GS to 100% with GSDx in hardware mode Ubuntu 16.04
#1
Question
I'm brand new to PCSX2 and not the best at Linux.
I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04 64bit
Using a Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT with the proprietary binary driver v. 340.98
AMD Phenom II x4 920 with proprietary amd64-microcode
installed PCSX2 from Gregory's repo with apt-get
I've managed to get PCSX2 running GTA: San Andreas but only with GSDx in software mode. In software mode it was slow (mostly playable) and had some sort of "double vision" effect going.
In hardware mode, the game will load the opening credits but the GS% goes to 100% as soon as the name starts to load, which is when the game actually starts. Nvidia Xserver doesn't show much activity when this happens, neither does sys monitor. (screenshot attached)

I tried several different settings and searched most of the day for help.
I'm probably missing something so any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zoidberg

UPDATE: For some reason I didn't notice this before in the console Wacko

I could be wrong but GTA is rather demanding and might be to demanding for that system

Did you try the free Mesa/Nouveau driver ? It is globally slower but it supports the latest openGL extensions. On 1.4 I put various workaround to boot on old drivers. I dropped them in 1.5 so old Nvidia can't be used on latest dev versions.

Thanks for the replies so far!

I did try the free driver later last night and it said something along the lines of not enough power/resources and couldn't load anything.
Any other tips?

The free driver must work. However You need a recent enough Mesa.

I seem to be using PCSX2 v.1.4.0, so the nvidia driver may work?
I have the option for a Nouveau display driver, but it gives me insufficient resources or incompatible hardware/drivers. I tried with the OpenGL very advanced custom settings force-disabled with both drivers already.
I'll keep poking around, I don't think my graphics card likes the nouveau driver.
Thanks again,
Zoidberg

Good news everyone!
The nouveau driver is working in hardware mode and runs smooth. I'm not sure what I did wrong last night when I tried it the first time.
Now to figure out why the text is all in colored boxes, as well as the smoke effects.
Thanks for your input Gregory!

This may help too?

Should I update anything?
I tried to disable the geometry shaders, etc. on the OpenGL very advanced section of GSDx. Nothing positive from that.
Would the buggy driver be to blame for my graphic errors?

You need to use a newer version of Mesa. You have 11.2. Try to get the 12.X or bettter the 13.Y

Then delete the ~/.config/PCSX2/inis/GSdx.ini file to start a fresh config.

updated Mesa, deleted the GSdx.ini, restarted with no effect.

I noticed the OpenGL version is still 3.0. I'm guessing thats limited by my graphics card?
