GT4 keeps locking up after adjusting car settings.

Every time I try to adust the settings on my cars in GT4, the game will go to a black screen and stay there.  No loading sign, no nothing.  It has done it on 1.6, and now I switched to 1.7 it still does it.  It makes the game near impossible to play, because you can't disable ASM.  It makes the cars painfully slow in the corners. 

What am I missing?

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.
