Getting an iMac Desktop
Hello, everyone!
I am planning to get an iMac desktop computer sooner or later, the one that supports both Windows and Mac OS operating systems. However, I'm wondering can PCSX2 run on the Windows operating system instead of the Mac OS.

The second problem is of choosing the right iMac so PCSX2 can run at a reasonable speed and also the right iMac at a reasonable price. I'm faced with four choices:
Choice 1
A. Display: 21.5", 1920X1080
B. Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
C. Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3
D. Price: 41,900 NT

Choice 2
A. Display 21.5", 1920X1080
B. Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
C. Processor: 3.2GHz Intel Core i3
D. Price: 52,900 NT

Choice 3 :
A. Display: 27", 2560X1440
B. Graphics:ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
C. Processor: 3.2GHz Intel Core i3
D. Price: 59,900 NT

Choice 4:
A. Display: 27", 2560X1440
B. Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB of GDDR5 SDRAM
C. Processor: 2.8GHz Intel Core i5
D. Price: 69,900

Please help! I would be really grateful.

Yes, also choice 2 looks fine for me, 3/4 would be only for the bigger screen but that's up to you.

I suppose choice 2 is alright because of the price. But I have a question about the processor in choice 2. In the "Will PCSX2 run fast on my computer?" thread, Intel Core i3 isn't listed among the "Reasonable Playable Speed" area or the "Recommended Processors" area. Does it really matter?

Will work at a reasonably playable speed (this does not mean full speed):

AMD Athlon FX Dual Core
AMD Opteron Dual Core
AMD Athlon X2 (and Turion laptop equivalent)
AMD Phenom
AMD Phenom II
Intel Core 2 Duo (and laptop Core Duo equivalent)
Intel Core 2 Quad
Intel Core i 5
Intel Core i 7

and

Recommended Processors:

Intel Core 2 Duo / Core i3 @ 3.2Ghz or faster
Intel Core i5 / i6 / i7 @ 2.66Ghz or faster
AMD Phenom II / Athlon II (X2, X3 or X4) @ 3.4Ghz or faster

RE: Getting an iMac Desktop
I got another question. Apple just released their new iMac. Now each choice has quad-core Intel i5 processors with AMD Radeon HD 6750, 6770, or 6970 graphics. I read somewhere that quad core computers aren't that good for running PCSX2. It that true?

RE: Getting an iMac Desktop
It's not that quads are not good for PCSX2, it's that you don't take much advantage of the other cores but overall a quad is a bit faster in some cases (mostly when you run other background apps or the UI thread on PCSX2 is a bit high). What really brings a difference is the higher clock and better architecture, which I think the new iMac have (sandy bridge i5 but I'm not completely sure about that).

If you can still find an i5 with 3GHz or higher you're still good to go.

RE: Getting an iMac Desktop
I have a 20inch imac aswell as my current mbp and its more than big enough unless you plan on being more than 15-20 feet away from your mac. The 21.5" should be more than enough so you might as well save yourself the money.

13" 2010 Mac Book Pro - Snow Leopard 10.6.7 - Pcsx2 Version: 0.9.6 (and praying on 0.9.7 to release)
2.4Ghz Intel Duo Core | NVIDIA 320M (256mb) | 4 Gigs 1067mhz DDR3 Ram

Getting really frustrated now! The new iMacs all have GHz's below 3, and the only one that actually has a 3 is the most expensive one. It costs a whooping 65,900 NT. I guess I will have to wait longer......

RE: Getting an iMac Desktop
Try to find out if the new ones have sandy bridge CPUs... I guess an i5 sandy bridge 2.8GHz would be fine...
