Good or Best SSE4 Processor (on the cheap as well?)
#1
I have an AMD Athlon II Quad-Core processor and an XFX R6770 graphics card. I'm trying every setting possible trying to get Final Fantasy X-2 to run smoothly but all has failed in getting me past the airship without terrible, choppy, and slow FMVs. I have overclocked the CPU to 3.8 MHz which has helped gameplay-wise (although after the airship shows up to pick up YRP the game fails to load the next scene and gets stuck at a black screen). I'm supposing I need a better processor in order to play this game without fail. Any tips?

you do need better cpu, but you cant just change cpu itself you will have to buy motherboard and ram along with new cpu, because your board has am2 socket i believe and its outdated. Now the best cheapest way to go for gaming build would be 2500K/2550k, z68 mobo, and some DDR3 dual channel ram, and i would recommend getting aftermarket cpu heat sink something like hyper 212+ if youre trying to save the money, and you can oc that 2500k/2550k to 4.5Ghz, at those clocks youll be blown away by performance youll get running pcsx2 or any other game, keep in mind 6770 is lower mid range gpu so dont expect miracles running pc games but you wont have issues in pcsx2

lol That's like telling a guy to get a rocket launcher to kill a fly. Your CPU is fine, try a different version of pcsx2 or switching between sw/hw modes. I remember having that choppiness and freeze problem long ago, it's definitely not your hardware.

@synce can you post your settings for PCSX2 0.9.8 for FFX-2? The FMVs I'm willing to forgive but when the games starts losing framerate when blur effects in spells like Demi and Fire that's a bit frustrating.

Sounds more like a graphics issue.

What is your internal resolution set to?
Try "Native".

phenom II's have trouble with pcsx2, so atholon is definetly underpowered, can it run pcsx2? sure but he shouldnt expect near perfect or perfect speeds, and 2500k is not an overkill for pcsx2 its a perfect cpu for it, i got an impression that he wanted to upgrade so i gave my opinion on best upgrade route

Sorry to say vdgamer, but I'm a proud owner of a Phenom II and I seriously have no issues with PCSX2 what so ever Smile but then again i don't play the games that are very heavy Smile

My motherboard is a GIGABYTE A75M-D2H Socket FM1. I ordered it so it would be compatible with the FM1 processor I had actually ordered by mistake thinking it was an AM3 socket CPU. Any knowledge of all the CPUs compatible with this one?

Im proud owner of phemon II as well and its a great cpu for the money, but that doesnt change the fact that is does poorly in pcsx2, my phenom is overclocked to 4.2Ghz and its still has trouble running pcsx2 at perfect speeds while my i7 920 @ 2.66Ghz(stock) did better than phenom II @4.2, im just trying to give people credible info, im not hating on amd or anything
