Is there anything that can be done to these transparent black borders around the driving UI?

Side effect of the upscaling
You can try fiddling with Merge sprite/Align sprite/Round sprite but other than that I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done.
Upscaling is a hack after all.

To me it looks like you are using custom textures and have the blending level set to maximum, but i tend more towards the first. It is better to contact the author of the textures. Smile
