Gran turismo 4 issues
Hi there,

I am new here and new to pcsx2 emulation program so be patient with me please Smile - thanks.

I installed and updated all windows drivers and downloaded and installed pcsx2 (latest version avalible) with default package of plugins. Trying to run smoothly game Gran Turismo 4[NTSC] (45+ fps should be enough, 55+ perfect!).

System hardware:
Mainboard ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
AMD Phenom II X4 BE clocked to 3,5GHz
AMD Radeon HD4890 1GB
4GB Corsair DOMINATOR @1600MHz
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 - fully up to date
Now the problem is:
1. I fixed common problems like flickering screen, graphic bugs (artifacts?) etc...
2. Game runs at 90%EE and 25%GS at 60fps in menu BUT 100%EE and 50-60%GS ingame at 30-35fps
3. I don't know why I can choose only DX9 in GS setup and the only GS plugin I can choose is with support of SSE2 but CPU supports SSE4.1 if I am right(???)
(dxdiag shows that is fully updated and version 11 proprely installed)

Tried lot of settings etc but nothing really helped. Is this system slow for this game (emulator?)?
In task manager in full load of pcsx2 cpu is running on about 40% and RAM 1,5-2 giggs.

Thanks in advance for any advices.

Andrej

RE: Gran turismo 4 issues
Well you said you had latest pcsx2 version;P and it has new MTVU speedhack which could help on your x4 by using additional core for VU1 which could give a few fps more. In case you're clueless, latest pcsx2 = svn versions, which I just linked.

Also your cpu doesn't support SSE4.1 nor SSSE3 but SSE4a and SSE3, similar names, but completely different stuff, which is useless from pcsx2 perspective(and probably from most others), with this CPU you have SSE2 is max, but any higher is at most slightly faster, and not even in every game/scene soo it doesn't matter much anyway.

HD4890 should have DX10, soo maybe try to update your directX. And don't just look that you have dx11 in your OS, that doesn't mean much as new dx updates are added without changing version number.

GT4 is one of those heavy games, and for heavier games generally AMD cpu's aren't good enough, they're simply slower at same clock speed in compare to new intel cpu's. Is your cpu bad? No, but pcsx2 need something better for a few more demanding games, and that's possibly one of them.

Thank you very much for explaining all of this! :-)
Actually I've seen some youtube videos where GT4 was working on full frames on even bit worse pc system (phenom x3 etc...). And yeah I know AMD cpus are like 25% slower agaist intel ones at same clock but when I was buying PC there was top-end AMD - phenom for 250$ (190E) or Intel i7 xtreme for 1300$ (1000E)... My gf is just rocking counterstrike on my pc so i can't try it now shiat :/... I wanted to know if it is possible to set pcsx2 and GT4 on my PC to reach 60fps. I still hope it is! Thanks again

RE: Gran turismo 4 issues
The thing with the movies is that you can record with 2fps and get 60fps movie.

PII X3 or even AII X3 is pretty much same as PII X4 in pcsx2 as at max with MTVU speedhack it'll use 3 cores anyway and without MTVU that's just 2 core in use, meaning half of your x4 is getting bored. What matters is speed of a single core, soo highly overclocked dual and tri core cpu's are faster than quads. If the movie wasn't fake, and that PII x3 was @4ghz or more then trully it was faster than yours, from pcsx2 point of view at least.;P Oh and if you're a person going for top/latest cpu's, for future upgrades keep in mind that Bulldozer is slower than PII in pcsx2 and pretty much in most other stuff that don't care about amount of cores, but their individual speed.

ye ye got this now... true stories, it's not first time I am being f*cked up by quad core cpu, especially in emulating programs. now i gonna try some hardcore oc and we will see, atm it's going 35fps on start and 40-60 in race on the track. Thank you very much anyway! (jeez I'm so sad... I love GT series so much Smile)

RE: Gran turismo 4 issues
Hi there!
I try to play with gran turismo 4, but it's not perfect. I have the problem same as mentioned before." Game runs at 90%EE and 25%GS at 60fps in menu BUT 100%EE and 50-60%GS ingame at 30-35fps"
I've got the newest version of pcsx2 and i think i got enough hardware for it. Help me out, please.

System hardware:
Gigabyte H55M-S2 motherboard
intel core i3-540 3.06GHz
ATi Radeon HD 5750
2Gb RAM

RE: Gran turismo 4 issues
Your only choice is overclocking my friend. You have a dual core, so the MTVU hack will unlikely help you at all. You could try some of the other speedhacks, they may help a little bit.
