And SoCs are more for tablets, netbooks that kind of stuff, perhaps it can even be used for desktops, since it is the Jaguar which is being used for the PS4.

You don't want that thing in a desktop. Its way too slow. For the portable market it might be the best thing out there but it would be bad for the desktop market to get that. The one in the PS4 is listed as a low end CPU. its only has 1.6GHZ per core. Its really slow. I bet an I3 would beat that thing.

It is an APU though, the SoC also has a Quad Core that runs on 2 Ghz with a 8xxx series GPU, so for a laptop it might actually work quite well, since some i7QMs run at 2 Ghz aswell. Smile

Ps4 doesn't need a high end CPU. Like I mentioned in other threads, it's gonna be an HSA machine. The only things that will use the CPU will be things that need to. Why make the CPU do physics calculations when the GPU can do it better? There's no point in comparing the ps4's specs to PC parts.

Yeah but the I7 would kill it though.

that's not our point >

a low end CPU will cost like a CPU from Intel's Extreme series when this thing is out Tongue

RE: Haswell: Gain shameful performance?
Well, while AMD is able to supply a reasonable option to Intel CPU and free from TC "features", the choice is clear and ease for me.

I really don't care if Haswell got small or big performance increase, its vPRO is enough to keep me out. Maybe nothing bad will come from it all at once. Probably people will not even know it is there. But... big snowballs may start like a puny cute rolling little ball.

Sorry to bring again an issue that most of you are aware (although not really aware in most cases). But I believe it is important, more than we are driven to know and accept. Once upon a time was said: The best way to deceive is to tell the truth, just don't tell the whole truth.

Imagination is where we are truly real

Wait, what? Low end CPU costing extortionate Intel high end prices? I don't follow.

RE: Haswell: Gain shameful performance?
you're really expecting PS4 to be under ~700$ which is way more than the production cost .....

RE: Haswell: Gain shameful performance?
This pricing rumor is ridiculous lol. Sony already said that they don't want to have an expensive console like the PS3 was at launch. Also the main reason the PS3 costed as much as it did was because of bluray. A standalone bluray player back then retailed for $1000 while the PS3 was $499 minimum.

There's no way the ps4 will be more than $499. It's just more doomsday nonsense, honestly. Sony aren't stupid.
