it came in very handy for me when windows refused to fix the partition tables, you can read off the entire contents of the drive.

Thanks for that! Biggrin

RE: Help me to Clone my Failing Hardrive
actually already tried that too and partition table doctor and spinrite none of them can fix the drive becuz the drive has too many conscutive bad blocks spinrite showed me 800 of them and still counting after a 2.5hour test I have already discussed it with my supervisor and decided to send it for recovery still TNX for the tip tho

this is where we will be sending it http://xyon.com.ph/ and goodness price was a staggering 12000Peso we already used this service before so I already had an Idea how much its gonna cost us and I wasn't that far off the mark

oh i didn't say it'd fix it, i meant its good for getting files off the drive ;p Your only chance of fixing it is doing a low level format on the drive (zero fill should be fine). if that doesn't work, you're screwed

drive is ***** ref, unrecoverable sectors mean the sector is damaged

Not always, ive had a drive appear totally fubar and low level format made it work for another 3 years without a single bad sector or relocated sector (possible exaggeration here, but never failed SMART).

RE: Help me to Clone my Failing Hardrive
most drives have a offline scan mode (can be activated with various software, in linux this can be done with "smartctl --test=long /dev/sda" (there might be a windows port of this program also.), takes about 90 minutes to complete and the drive will try to fix any errors on the medium by relocating sectors or marking them as failed) but with the slow read rate over the whole drive sounds like something more serious is happening like a head crash, you should recover any data as you can though before attempting a repair.
