How effective is the DX 11 plugin?
#1
So... I've owned my Radeon 5870 for over a week now, and the other day I tested out the GDSX DX 11 plugin with Windows 7 64 bit.

It worked.. (Which surpised me).

I was able to have FF10 @ 1920x1080 with VSYNC @ 100%, whereas the 4870x2 with DX10 couldn't manage 100% emulation using VSYNC.

My question however, how effective is the DX11 plugin? I've got quite a few games, hell, I'd even test a few out if you require it.

Looking forward to replies.

It is the same code as the dx10 one. No changes targeted at dx11 functionality have been made.

Are you sure? My 4870x2 would crash when I attempted to use DX11.

As far as I'm aware, there's changes in DX11 which improve DX10 performance..

Yes, but the GSDX plugin doesn't actually use any of the DX11 changes, yet.

How's that card for general PC gaming, though? *jealous*

Yeah there are but the plugin has to actually use the new features to gain anything, which the plugin isnt yet. You may have had a problem with the x2 drivers or something or maybe the 58xx doesnt have the bug that gives slower speed on ati cards who knows :P

Fair enough. Don't I feel like an idiot Tongue2
And Kier, the 5870 in general gaming is immense.. Better still is its overclocking capabilites, using voltage tweaks and clock tools, I rose the GPU clock from 850MHZ, to 1000MHZ, the memory from 1200MHZ, to 1350MHZ.
In Crysis, it resulted in around 25% higher FPS.

The only difference between the DX10 and DX11 drivers in GSdx is that the DX11 driver uses the IDX11 interfaces and structures (hence it loads the DX11 DLLs and such). But yeah, it's just using DX11 in "dx10 compat mode" essentially, and not yet utilizing any of the new DX11 API additions.

Also, crash bugs could be the fault of copy/paste errors. No one's really tested the DX11 driver much yet since there's not a whole lot of point to it (yet).

I'm interested to see how nVidia responds, now.

nVidia responed with fake gfx, they are 2 gens behind ATI so they try to conceal that fact.
