What I've been told about the software threads if you have a Quad-core don't use anything above 3 Otherwise it'll gobble up all the CPU Cores and the EE won't get any decent amount of processing time.

Not saying your wrong, but it works for me, i use 5 and get a 10fps hit over 3 threads. Also its noticeable with game play and not just the fps count

Hmm it might be the game itself then, since well not every game uses the same settings ofcourse Not saying you're wrong or anything, but this was something I read on this forum.
