How well does the hardware performance scale with PCSX2?
#1
Hi, everyone. I'm currently running PCSX2 0.9.7.2578 on a Core 2 Duo E6600 at stock (2.66) and a 9600GT. With the hardware, the games run pretty darn well. Using speed hacks to the point that they really don't effect the video, I can get most games to run 60 FPS in game (with some drops if there is a lot on screen) and about 45-50 FPS in cut-scenes.

I'm looking to upgrade this system in the near future to an i5 and probably an HD 5770. These will also be overclocked to whatever I can safely get. Now in most benchmarks and PC games, I could easily expect a 1.5-2x performance boost over my current hardware with this new setup... my question is how well PCSX2 scales with these performance benchmarks. With this setup, could I possibly expect a solid 60 FPS the entire time or will it just not show much improvement?

You'll get a ~80% increase in fps, on average. If you were gpu limited with the 9600gt, then even more.
This is assuming you overclock the i5 to around 4Ghz.

You can expect a full 60fps in all supported games with that setup Smile

Ok, then I have it overclocked to 2.66Ghz... I do recall dropping it back a summer or two ago because I lost my air conditioning and the CPU was getting too hot. I never bothered changing it back and forgot that I didn't put it to stock.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll be building this system sometime in a month or so.
