I hope this is powerful enough
So, I bought a notebook from Lenovo (as I refused to buy one from Dell or Compaq) and was quite surprised by the hardware I got for only $800.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 08626LU
CPU: 2nd gen Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB
Instructions: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST), Intel 64, XD bit (an NX bit implementation), TXT, Intel VT-x, Intel VT-d, Hyper-threading, Turbo Boost, AES-NI, Smart Cache.
GPU: NVidia GT555M with Optimus 1GB GDDR5 (NVidia GPU can be forced on)
RAM: 8GB DDR3 SDRAM PC-10600 1333MHz
15.6" LED screen 720p/1366x768 (not a deal-breaker for me)
HDD: 750GB 5400RPM (you get what you pay for)
OS:Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit
Price: $800

While I don't plan on playing super demanding games, would most games on PCSX2 run at acceptable speeds, moreso than my current desktop CPU/GPU? I know some games would never run full speed no matter what you had (like Shadow of the Colossus or MGS3 Snake Eater), but I just want to make sure games will run fine.

Is PCSX2 or Dolphin use still discouraged, even with proper ventilation or with other precautions?

Custom Desktop
CPU: Ivy Bridge Core i5 3570 3.4 GHz (3.8 GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
CPU Instructions: MMX, SSE1, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1,
SSE4.2, EIST, iAMT2, Trusted Execution Technology (TXT)
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
RAM: 8192MB DDR3 SDRAM PC3-10600 1333
HDD: 1 TB Western Digital HDD
Video: MSI GeForce GTX 660 2 GB GDDR5
Audio: Realtek 5.1 HD Audio

Lenovo, Asus, and Acer laptop price is always lower than that of Dell and HP. Personally I do not like the three much because their laptop does not look nice.

Perhaps you could run 60% -> 70% titles at full speed. My desktop i3 2100 and GT 440 still struggle at some games. Anyway your CPU & GPU are good on the mobile side. Good luck.

Grandia 3, Star Ocean 3, THPS3, Final Fantasy X....games like this. However, games such as Metal Gear Solid 2 The Sons of Liberty or Snake Eater...ain't gonna happen. Now that the MTVU hack is being implemented, it should work to my advantage. Having Intel Turbo Boost should help.

Yes-- It's definitely faster than your current desktop.
You should try SotC and MGS games with some Speedhacks.
Native res to be certain, but some higher is quite likely.
You will be surprised where that laptop stands... Wink

Should be doable with that laptop (not sure with THPS3, but I'm confident with other), also 2x or 3x res should be doable depending on the game.

Wow. I didn't realize how powerful this notebook was, and considering the price I paid, I'm looking for to using it! It just shipped out an hour ago, so that was quick processing on their part. Should I get a decent laptop cooler (USB or AC), or should I just tilt it back at an angle for ventilation (like on a book)?
