I will buy a new computer in several days,I want to play some old games on pc with emulator,such as star ocean 3,ffxii,dqviii,tales of abyss and so on.
I know that there must be a great increase from 4800+/8800GS(my old pc) to i5 3550/gtx670 (maybe my new pc) ,but now I can't make a descion to buy 3550 0r 3570k,3550 3.4GH is enough now for the ps2 games?Can be 60Hz in most games? If i buy 3570K ,i will pay more money on motherboard and cpu fan for OC.

the 3550 will be okay in most games, however the 3570k allows you to overclock quite pleasantly which should make up most the speed you need for those few games which are dependant on more speed.

hmm, i wasn't sure to answer this. i thought there was still that rule where we don't recommend buyers to purchase one hardware over another just for pcsx2.

I would go for the best, if you can afford it and the price step isn't too extreme.

nor a rule per-se. If they have an idea of 2 chips they want to go for and are asking the result of the 2 specifically on the emulator, there's no harm in giving advice.

If somebody comes along and says "I want a new PC for PCSX2, what shall i get", the answer can be far more broad depending on what else they want to do with that computer.

I think I'd better choose 3570K in case the computer performance is not strong enough for pcsx2.><

Dont get me wrong, the emulator will generally work very well on 3.4Ghz, i have a 3.6Ghz i7 920 (the old type ) and it runs most games at full speed, but there are a few which have emulation issues or require lots of memory which do run slightly too slow and would be quicker on a faster CPU. the newer processors can easily reach 4.5Ghz which is a huge difference, despite the fact the ivybridge is about 10-15% faster than my i7 anyway ;p

the newer cpu's don't even need overclocking to reach 3.6Ghz xD
