Intermittent freezes

My games run full speed but sometimes the EE would just drop to 0 every few minutes or so, causing the game to freeze for a couple of seconds. These freezes never break the game but they do get very annoying. What is the likely cause of this? I'm using Core i5 450M with GeForce GT 335M.

Are you running it from a dvd disc? If so make an iso with a program like imgburn and run that directly with the internal iso reader of PCSX2. It should eliminate the freezes

No, I'm running from ISO. I just discovered that the issue is not isolated to the emulator. Yesterday I played Counter Strike and the problem was there. My computer kept locking up every few minutes or so of playing.
