Jak X Black Screen Issue (PAL version)
#1
Hello folks  Biggrin
I'm here today because I'm facing a common problem, but I seem to be unable to solve it.
Is a known fact that the game Jak X: Combat Racing has compatibility issues with pcsx2, as I'm not the first one talking about this (see this, this or this post for example).
I'm aware of the existence of a Fix that has worked for many (specifically, the one in this post: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Jak-X-Pat...SC-and-PAL), but, for some reason, it doesn't work for me.
Now, I have European (PAL) image of the game, and I'm trying to get it to work with the latest stable version of pcsx2, running on a core i7 / R9 290X machine, using GSdx AVX plugin (I tried both dx11 hardware and software mode), all speedhax on Auto/Default.
I put the "fix file" in the cheat folder (in both the My Documents and the program cheat folders, because I wasn't sure which one was the correct one) and enabled cheats.
Still, if I run the game (full boot) I only get the ps2 logo, and then a black, silent screen.
I attached the log.
Any idea? Am I doing something wrong here?
If someone had it working, I'd like to know the exact video/emulation settings you're using to try and reproduce them.

it says nothing in that log about cheats being enabled. are you using full boot?

Sorry if I asked and then disappeared for a few days, I'm taking college exams this week, and I've been crazy busy  Blush
I'm starting to think that I didn't enabled cheats properly/ I did it, but for some reason pcsx2 isn't loading them.
Let's take a step back: I placed the .pnach file in user/documents/pcsx2/cheats, and in user/pcsx2/cheats (the latter one is the installation folder) bgecause I wasn't sure which one was the right one.
Then I enabled them by checking "Enable Cheats" under the system drop down menu, like so:
http://imgur.com/GqfS8A7
Then I try to full boot (the first option in the system drop down menu, right?) and I get the infamous black screen.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything else I have to do to enable cheats that I'm not doing?
Thanks to all of you for your answers and your patience, I really appreciate  Biggrin

Quick Edit
Meanwhile, I tried to get rid of pcsx2 and get a fresh install. This time I set it in english, to help you guys read my screenshots.
I tried the previously mentioned steps all over again, and it still doesn't work, but this time, at the bottom of the log, I get a "Patches: No CRC, using 00000000 instead."
Does it tell something to you?

You should use the fast boot option when using cheats. Wink

I guess you're right Laugh
Using fast boot it works, but it has no sound during cutscenes.
I was using full boot because in the original post where the patch has been posted, the author says:
Quote:You will need Full Boot if you want to hear any sounds (or read any subtitles) in the cutscenes or listen to any music.

To recap, at the moment it only works with fast boot, but to get sound I need to get it working with full boot.
How could I solve this?
#8
You could try disabling cheats, doing a full boot, then when the game is loaded enable cheats again.
#9
Tne issue is that the game won't boot without that patch, so you have to keep cheats enabled from the beginning.
I partially solved by changing the language in game though.
Now I still don't get sound in the introduction movie, and sometimes I don't have background music, but the rest seems to work Laugh

Full boot with cheats works for me on 1.4.0 (and older versions), the folder 1.4.0 it reads from is the one in "Documents\PCSX2\cheats" folder.

Don't know why it doesn't work for you/op with full boot.
