Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix performance issues
#1
I can't seem to get very good performance out of KH2FM. At my current settings, I'm getting around 40-60 fps depending on the situation (usually around 45-high 30s-I can only get 60 with ~0-1 npcs on screen), but the framerate shifts are very noticeable and the sound slows down along with the framerate, so unless I'm getting a perfect 60 fps I get a very unenjoyable slow sound. Plus, the game just doesn't feel right unless it's at at least 50 fps. Anything under is just too slow.

I'm using the most recent SVN as of this writing (revision 5674). At this point, I'm starting to think that my processor just isn't up to snuff, but I figured I'd let you guys have a look at my specs and settings before I give up entirely.

Specs:
Processor: AMD A8-3500M
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 6750M
RAM: 6GB

Gallery of images for my settings here.

Another interesting thing to note: whenever I open the plugin selector, all of these errors pop up in the console. Would they have anything to do with the problem?

So, what do y'all think? Do I have any hope of getting some more performance, or are my specs holding me back?

Hmm...that's an APU (bear in mind I'm not familiar with APUs and I don't know how they work with PCSX2). I have a feeling that PCSX2 is using the apu for graphics and not the 6750. In GSDx under adapter, can you select the 6750 (should amd raddeon HD mobility 6000/6700 series, or something). Also, make sure you have the latest directx and c++ runtime binaries installed.

Deselect 8-bit textures and try ee cyclerate 3.

Hmm...weird. the 6750 doesn't appear as an option under adapter. The only options are "Default Hardware Device", "Reference Device", and "AMD Radeon HD 6620G", which I'm pretty sure is the integrated graphics in the APU. I tried selecting it just for kicks, but it didn't really help anything. Disabling 8-bit textures and pushing ee cyclerate up to 3 didn't do much, either.

I'm not entirely sure how to get the latest directx and c++ binaries. Are these the installers I need to use? 1 2

Hmm...not sure what's causing that. Check in the Catalyst Control Center and see if you can switch graphics adapters in there.

As for the binaries, yes to directx. I would recommend using this for the c++ redists though: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Syst...ller.shtml

I'll also go ahead and recommend you to update your driver to this version: http://www.guru3d.com/files_get/amd_cata...oad,2.html

Finally got everything up to date, unfortunately it didn't do much good. After I updated my graphics drivers (as well as directx and c++) I seem to have lost the ability to set switchable graphics on a per-app basis, so I just set it to use the GPU for everything when plugged in. I can now select the 6750 in the adapter menu, however.

It helped a little: normal gameplay/cutscenes are usually around 50-60 fps now, but combat is another story. It likely has to do with the amount of npcs/enemies on screen, because the whole station of awakening sequence played relatively smoothly, but the following struggle match sequence (with all the people in the background) saw framerates around maybe 45-30 on average. Even the cutscenes were pretty bad, and the fights with the nobodies/Axel at the end were just atrociously slow.

It also seems to slow down whenever an effect is applied, such as blur. For example, the Twilight Thorn battle was relatively smooth, but when I won and the game did the whole blurry slo-mo victory shot, the framerate just tanked.

FMVs are also pretty slow, but from what I understand there's not much I can do about that.

So, any other ideas?

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much else you can do. You can try software mode but I doubt it will do much, if anything (set extra rendering threads to 3 and hit F9 in game). As for the switchable graphics, yeah, that's a bug with those drivers. I should have mentioned they're beta but they're still the best drivers out currently, especially for APUs. One last thing you could check is what instruction sets does PCSX2 show in the console when you start it up? Post what it says (not sure what APUs have).

Yeah, software mode pretty much made it worse. I swear, this APU is gonna be the death of me. Anyway, these are the instruction sets I get:

x86 Features Detected:
MMX.. SSE.. SSE2.. SSE3
MMX2 .. 3DNOW .. 3DNOW2.. SSE4a

For switching to software mode make sure you have extra rendering threads in GDSX set to 2-3 instead of at 0 and that should help you gain speed in software mode.

I did that already. Still wasn't nearly as good as hardware mode.

Ah well, no sse4.1...Sorry, I think you're ***** out of luck I'm afraid =/

EDIT: One thing I should ask, are you on high performance power plan?
