Looking for a Bulldozer and Phenom II capable motherboard
#1
As the title says it I want to get a decent motherboard that support my current 125W processor (see my signature) and also be able to support the next generation of Bulldozer (whenever they come out and if I ever decide to upgrade to them) My main reason for upgrading is because I want to get DDR3 RAM and my current motherboard only supports DDR2 sadly. Specifically I would like to get an 880G motherboard but haven't been able to find any that support FX Bulldozers. Are there any even in existence?

I know that there are 760G motherboards that do but since I have a 780G motherboard already it would feel like downgrading...

The 970 motherboards look great but I would still prefer an 880G because of the integrated GPU (as a backup in case my discrete ever fails), UNLESS the next generation Bulldozers will REQUIRE a 900 series board (970, 990FX etc.) I say that because the current generation of Bulldozers is a disappointment (at least according to everyone here on the forums) so I would rather wait until the next generation

BTW, does anyone know or has heard any rumors about a possible 980G motherboard???

Which is based on BD arch.

If I were you OP, I'd save my money and wait for ivy instead.

I just recently upgraded to the processor that I have now and wouldn't want to buy a new cpu, mobo, and ram (which I would have to do if I switch to Intel) Right now I really just want faster RAM but in order to get that I have to also buy a new mobo that supports DDR3 RAM. What would be a good recommendation?

if you're on a tight budget just wait. your system isn't that bad. that RAM doesn't make it fat. and BD isn't yet cool. and the next gen of AMD is not yet announced to be anything.

if you have money to waste, buy i7 and have fun for a couple month. but you might need a new one after that. their thing is called ivy and will cost you alot. Wink

My RAM is actually not very good, I think. The biggest problem I have is when playing Civilization V on a Large or Huge map. The game gets very slow and I think it's because of the slow RAM. After all the AMD Overdrive Benchmark gives around 20,000 to three categories ( Integer Computation, Floating Point Computation, and Cache Speed) but only gives around 3,000 for Memory Speed.

Anyway does anyone know if there is an 880G mobo that supports FX processors?

any AM3 + mobo supports FX processor. op i suggest ocing the 955 u can easily go 3.7-3.8 with little effort.

i have similar specs to u as well
i myself have my 955 @ 3.87ghz (215 FSB x 18) atm . with a 870 biostar am3 board (no bulldozer for me), (see rest in comment)

i wouldnt waste time with bulldozer

.
btw a decent am3+ board is lik 90-120 dollars now and DDR3-1333 & 1600 is cheap now. (30bucks for 2x2gb kits for dual channel)
CPU: i5-3570k @ 4.5ghz http://valid.canardpc.com/2607863
MOBO: Asrock Z75 Pro 3
RAM: 2x4GB G.Skill RipJaw X 1333mhz DDR3 ram.
GPU : Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 @ 1200/1450 clocks http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/kasmr/

Two questions for you:

1.) Does your processor support DDR 1600 RAm ( is it able to run it at that speed or is 1333 the max so that if I bought DDR 1600 would it work with my processor which is identical to yours)?

2.) Are you using the stock fan that came with the cpu or are u using another and what kind of temps are you getting at idle and at full load ?

Thanks
