Looking for a new GPU
I recently upgraded my cpu to what's in my signature but now I realize that I need a new GPU as well. My question is since my motherboard is AMD 780G (socket AM2+) can it support DDR3 graphics cards or DDR5 cards and if so what would be good recommendations for a price range of less than $80? I prefer ATI cards but I wouldn't mind getting Nvidia if they are better for this price range. Thanks for your feedback.

Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP micro ATX Intel motherboard
Intel Core i5 3570K processor @3.4 GHz
Patriot G2 Series 8 GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
XFX AMD Radeon HD 6750 1GB GDDR5 RAM
Patriot Pyro SATA III 120 GB SSD
Corsair GS 600W psu

RE: Looking for a new GPU
Your motherboard type doesn't effect what type of video card ram you can have. In fact, as long as you have a PCI-E 16x slot, it's compatible with all available PCI-E graphics cards (even 2.0 and 3.0 ones, though they'll run a little slower)

Of course, some of them will require additional power... but those are higher end cards and will generally cost more than $80 anyways.

RE: Looking for a new GPU
thanks that cleared up that question for me. However before I do upgrade I am trying to use AMD Overdrive to overclock my gpu but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or even if it makes any difference for pcsx2 and also for pc games (The Last Remnant to be specific) I set the quality on highest in last remnant and its beautiful but slow (even on medium settings) I was wondering if overclocking the gpu would help or if its more vram dependent in which case i need to upgrade to much more than 256 MB that i now have.

This would probably be the best card in your price range

Overclocking your video card will of course give you better results, but don't expect any miracles... You're likely only looking at a 10-15% speed increase at most with PC games, and likely less with PCSX2.

PCSX2 is much more dependent on memory bandwidth than GPU speed/shaders so overclocking the memory on the video card will get you the best results there (and in most cases for PC games as well)...

Again though, if you're only getting 20fps on average, you're only likely to get a boost of about 2-3fps in either scenario (is GPU is the limiting factor) so it may not be worth the extra hassle (stability testing, added system heat, etc)

your cpu is onboard gpu despite it can overclock via bios mobo, but i suggest you to leave it at default. overclock onboard HD 3200 gpu is pretty pointless result for pcsx2. maybe you get an add some small fps around 4fps-6fps but from defaut clock is already too weak, maybe 10-12fps.

Nice choice.

If you'd like an equivalent nVidia, you don't really have to spend more like they say. Wink
