Memory Card -> PC savegame transfer via Adapter
#1
Hey guys,

I've been looking into transfering my PS2 savegames (especially Okami) to the PC.
So I did some research on google and the PCSX2 forum, and found out that you could plug in a USB stick to transfer your savegames to the PC. Squall4226's guide was also interesting to read.

But, soon a problem arose.

I got the PS2 slim (2 USBs) and a 16MB memory card with all my savegames on it.
The problem is that my 1GB USB stick doesn't get powered by the weak PS2 USBs (the green LED on the stick isn't even blinking).
So I can't just copy my savegames with the browser.

The only other thing that seems feasible is buying an adapter to plug my memorycards in.
However, there's no memory card adapter specifically made for a PS2 -> PC transfer.
What I did find were these:
http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-PS2-Mem...895&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logic3-PS2-Memor...B000RMRNSI

They're meant to be used for transfering the savegames to the PS3 (via USB), but considering how PS2 controller adapters work pretty well with the PC, I guess it SHOULD work.

But I'd rather ask here first if anybody had experience with using these adapters ?

Last I checked you can't use the PS3 adapters with a PC, unless someone created drivers for it since then (like with dualshock 3).

And I don't think you can transfer PS2 saves with a USB stick unless your PS2 is ESR'd or something, otherwise everyone would've been doing it Smile

Yeah, there are kinda mixed reactions considering the drivers:

It's possible (but this is the gamespot forum...)

It's maybe possible.

if you have a DVD burner, I'd go down to your local game stop, buy a used copy of 007 agent under fire, do the agent under fire memory card exploit (Google's your friend+^_^+), soft mod your PS2, copy files to the then working USB drive, put them on computer and enjoy+^_^+

I remember installing fmcb that way long ago... Playing through that game's first level was torture. But yeah unless you can find the Windows drivers first I wouldn't buy one of those adapters

So you're saying the PS2 should give the USB power when in a game ?
I read something about PS2 not letting you do stuff with the USB when you're just in the OS, but I tought it'd at least power the ports.

EDIT:
Hm, neither Okami nor SotC powered up the USB.

2.EDIT:
I think a friend of mine still has his modded PS2 (also a slim, but don't know which model#).

Ok, we managed to get the uLaunchELF running and the USB stick gets powered when accessed, however, the programm immediately freezes and won't do anything.

Can access the memory card and look at it's files.

I'll look into this some more.

EDIT:
We tried v3.78, since it was the first we could find. But I guess a newer version would have been better. Oh well, another CD-R for nothing...

2.EDIT:
Ahhhhh, it worked with v4.something !

+^_^+ instead of replacing the driving elf, i replaced the one for the first mission, so that when i hit new game it went strait into ulaunch+^_^+ but i heard that this doesn't work all the time, i only needed it once+^_^+
also +reped you Ap2000 for taking initiative and soft-modding your PS2+^_^+

i found this: http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/PS2-A...00575.aspx
there are other solutions but this one seems more direct. i hope this thing is designed to power itself or has drivers to do what it sez on the tin. (kof max impact 2- don't want to start from scratch-though i'm still a long ways from getting my ideal pcsx2 machine..)
i'd like to do the same for ps1- but adaptors i found are ps2-ps3- still i can save ps3's ps1 info to usb and take that to the pc
(i've yet to try- but means unless i get the card adaptors i could not expect to use my ps2....well its only 5 bucks mind.
