My specs (Optimization help?)
#1
XP running DirectX9

Intel Core2Duo @3.0
Radeon HD4870 1GB
4GB of RAM

PCSX2 0.9.6
Graphics ZeroGS 0.97.0
Sound ZeroSPU2 0.4.4

Trying to emulate Front Mission 4. For the most part I get decent FPS (around 40-60 ingame, bit lower with cutscenes.)
Now the problem is the graphics arent the best, spiked polygons and wierd shadows.

http://forums.pcsx2.net/thread-5968.html This person had the same problem, with "download the beta" being the answer. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or ideas on how to improve FPS or remove graphical problems. GSDX graphics plugin seems to demolish my FPS while increasing the graphical quality. Maybe some tweaking on my end?

Thanks, and great job on PCSX2!

GSdx SSE2 0.1.8 Windowed
Direct3D9(Hardware)
Pixel Shader 3.0
Interlacing None
4:3 aspect ratio.
Native resolution checked.
NLOOP hack gray checked
Texture Filtering checked
Alpha correction checked

Is it also worth noting that Frame Limiting is on Limit, with no speed hacks?

what pcsx2 version are you using? gsdx 1.8 is old as dust.. try the newest gsdx, log-Z FBA and GREY texture filtering

also, use EE1.5 speedhack and iop x2 if it's too slow

Fast response. I'll try that now. Downloaded an old-ass plugin set and left it in the folder so let me see what I can do.

Make sure you use SSSE3 at least, or SSE4.1 if your cpu supports it.
Laptop Rig:

Core 2 Duo @ 1.8Ghz
3 gb DDR2-800 RAM
256mb ATI HD 3430
Windows Vista Buisness 32-Bit

Desktop Rig:

P4 HT @ 3.0Ghz
3 gb DDR2-533 RAM
256mb ATI X1300
Windows XP Pro 32-Bit

SSSE3 newest gsdx, log-Z FBA, grey texture filtering.

EE1.5 speedhack and iop x2 settings.

20-40 FPS. Spikey Poly's are still present, and the shadows are a bit better. Overall quality is nice though =)

It's odd because my specs arent that bad. Maybe Vista w/ DX10 would help? I don't see how it could make that much of a difference.

This is the first game ive tried though, dumped my own Front Mission 4, should I try another?

What is the resolution in it. Try reducing it so that yo get faster speeds.

don't underestimate the hd 4870, it performs great for me in ffx @ 1920x1080, even 3840x2160 is playable @ 50-60fps (except for summon/overdrive animations) and looks awesome for a ps2 game. all without any speedhacks, well ok, technically, using the gpu to accelerate the graphics emulation is some sort of speedhack Wink

@captainbiggins: yes, try vista/windows7 for the dx10 support. your gpu will love it Laugh
