Need motherboards for OCing i3-540.
#1
Hi, i m getting i3-540,( as i3-530 is not available in India ). I wanted 2 get H55-M-UD2H for best overclocking. But it is also not available. So wud u plz list me down some models of motherboards OCing capable (since i will must have 2 OC processor To get to ~3.2 GHz). I have plans to play 3d PC games & have arranged for 120 Hz display. Plz consider this factor also for motherboard. SLI / Crossfire & mAtx not required.my allowance for GPU is ~170 $. Thanx alot for help

with a cpu with only 2 cores there is no way you can play 3d games. an i7 at minimum is required for best results (or you will have cpu bottleneck).

also a gpu with only 170$ (for example a gtx 460) is enough for 3d but not enough for high/maximum details (specially for the 3d games cause they need extra power).

But i saw on MTBS3D.COM, some 3D enthusiast was saying that i cud use dual core for 3D. May b he was talking for only 3D videos. What about with using Nvidia kit. OCing can help? May be i can save my kidney by OCing i3 rather than getting i7. If all negative, then what's yor opinion in low possible budget? So that i cud use PCSX as well 3D games too.

Minimum CPU requirement: Core 2 Duo or Athlon II X2 (presumably with the GPU doing much of the legwork)

3.2 GHz on a Core i3-540 is a pretty weak goal. The i3-540 runs on 3.06 GHz stock so 3.2 should be child's play for any motherboard. With a decent board, 4.0 GHz should be achievable with a mild voltage bump. I prefer Asus and Gigabyte motherboards. Just check availability in your area for Asus/Gigabyte LGA-1156 motherboards.

Right now, I got mine (i530) overclocked until 4Ghz with just 1 bump in the volts and no problems at all Smile. It's faster than HT disabled and 4.2 Ghz xDDDDDDDDD

So what do u guys say? Can an i3-540 with OC to 4 GHz can handle PCSX2 & 3D games? What kinda cooling wud b needed? Coz i wil have 2 digg out the whole country 2 find an aftermarket CPU cooler. As far for PCSX2, it wud work fantastic, but wat bout 3D? A site- http://www.pymol.sourceforge.net/stereo3d.html explains good bout 3D. But the GPU will make me begger. Any suggestion or Link ?
Butz_san! which Mobo ru using?

he wants to play with the nvidia 3d enabled games (with special glasses and monitor) not simple 3d games Tongue

a 2 core cpu for pc gaming is really low. many new games need AT LEAST a 4core cpu so you will not have any bottleneck (well except if you OC realyyyyyy high Tongue )

You're mistaken, difference between dual and quad core for new games is about 15-20% average and that's with low resolution and low/no AA, main bottleneck is still the graphic cards and let's say a dual core clocked 20% higher than a quad would still be a good choice taking in count how little gain the extra cores give against higher clock.

Also for 3-d gaming the graphic card enters to be a much higher bottleneck even with as much as 50% hit in performance in some games while the CPU doesn't really make a difference (of course having better CPU power doesn't hurt Tongue2).

No iakoboss, i m not that highly interested in 'nvidia 3d kit only'. Normal 3d games also wud do,if i get a good config which may last longer. I m not plannig 2 convert all games into 3d by nvidia kit. How about prticular 3d games? Sorry, dont hav deep idea.
