@Bositman:

By crazy resolutions, what do you mean? Im thinking 1920x1080 for internal resolution and screen resolution or better. Something like this:

http://neogaf.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1...tcount=970

http://neogaf.net/forum/showpost.php?s=1...tcount=915

So maybe I should go with the 1g. Its only 20 bucks more. Btw, I love your avatar and sig. Rolleyes

@unauthorizedlogin:

I think Im going to stick with the E8500 for now. With how much the i7 is and that the p55 chipset isnt out yet Im going to wait. I really only need this for pcsx2 so I dont need all of that yet. Ill just try and OC up to 4.0 if I can. That with the GTS 250 Im hoping with be good for what I want. Now I need a motherboard and proper memory to use. Any suggestions?

well im a fan of Asus, ive used their MB's for the past 6 years. Id recommend the P5Q series. But really, any P45 Ich10R board should work fine. Just buy one with the features you want in your price range. For memory, it doesnt really matter, just get the fastest your MB will support or grab DDR2 800 and OC it. if you're looking at Corsair Dominator memory then you cant really go wrong. Personally i never felt the need to buy "name-brand" memory. as stated before if it passes diags then i just OC it and push it to its limit.

Im kind of liking this board:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813128364

because of price and it supports both DDR2 and DDR3. Suposed to be super easy to OC. It only has 1 PCI-Express x16 but I dont think PCSX2 benefits from SLI or Crossfire anyways. If the manufacturer says:

"1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (The PCI Express x16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard)"

Does that mean it is PCIe 2.0? On the comparison page it lists it as yes:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Moth...uctID=2953

So with this board and the E8500, what ram should I run? Is 1:1 the best ratio for ram. Since the E8500 has a FSB @1333 and the MB has a FSB that can run @1333, does it make since to get DDR3 running at 1333? Or will this give me problems when I start to OC the Cpu up to 4.0? Could I go cheap and go with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820231253

Or what about this board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813128359

$5 cheaper, no DDR3 support, will take DDR2@1333.

Does anyone have an opinion on this card:

XFX GS250XZDFC GeForce GTS 250 1GB Core Edition 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814150356

Ive never used this brand. XFX. Any feedback would be great.

So adding up so far:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 $189.99
GFX - XFX GeForce GTS 250 1GB $149.99
Mboard - GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-UD3R $119.99 - $15 mail in rebate

Total - $444.97

While XFX is a great brand, there are other less expensive, but also great, brands as well. Check 'em out here http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...9&name=1GB

nah If only 1920x1080 you should be fine without 1GB

you won't get total performance out of DDR3 because you need 3 sticks, all of them in the same position of each channel ( needs 3 channel) and a i7 as the cpu.

altho i7 does indeed support Tri-Channel, this is not a requirement for DDR3 or i7. AM3 and 775 support Dual Channel DDR3 and you can also post an i7 with only 1 or 2 sticks of DDR3, although i dont remember if it runs in dual channel with only two.

DDR3 and DDR2 if i am not mistaken have similar performance considering that with more speed you get higher CL so difference is lower voltage, if i am not mistaken C2D and C2Q don't have tri-channel support, the big difference is tri-channel ( i suppose tri-channel might be better than dual channel) if you don't have that doesn't that mean you can get worse performance with DDR3 ( 800 CL4 > 1600 CL9, 800 CL3 > 1600 CL8, 800 CL4 = 1600 CL8, 800 CL4 < 1600 CL7 thats what its seems to be in my view from what i read, not really sure so if i am mistaken then i'm sorry).

I'd say go with Gigabyte for the mobo. Very good prices,many features and great overclocking abilities,hasn't failed me yet Wink

that is correct but it also depends on the performance of the memory, some will obviously overclock better (with lower latencies). i was simply stating that you dont NEED to have three sticks of ddr3, its just the optimal way to set it up. Smile

to OP, i have an XFX 7800GTX from a few years back, other than a heat issue (added a case fan to prevent artifacts) the card works great and i still use it on my 4th pc which is just as old as the card. theyve been around for a while and are reliable.
